What a mess this company is
First the Nextel fiasco and now this. Sprint just keeps making one bad business decision after another. Glad I'm not one of their customers. Why do they have so many other companies reselling their service under other names too? Verizon and AT&T don't do that

So offering customers the chance to get a free upgrade from a wimax device to lte or get out of their agreement is a mess how? From the time wimax was deployed it was understood that the company would eventually transistion to lte. The spectrum had to be used or forfited, and lte was not ready to launch. Sprint only promised to maintain the network through 2015 so this is no surprise.

I guess they were what you say, between a rock and a hard place when it came to that spectrum you're talking about. The Network Vision project sounds very impressive and give them credit but Sprint always for whatever reason manages to screw things up. It's like they have a good idea but poorly execute it.

What do you mean it was understood from when they initially deployed WiMax that they would transistion to LTE? They had no intention of doing that. They put their money down on WiMax and it was a flop. They and ClearWire are the only companies in the world using WiMax. And after seeing how successful VZW was with LTE and the rest of the world's wireless providers said they would upgrade to LTE, Sprint made the decision to cut their major loses on WiMax and use LTE.

Sprint had an obligation to allocate their spectrum holdings for use or lose it before LTE was ever offered commercially. WiMAX was already culminated in many markets across the globe. Sprint was not about to lose a valuable asset so they chose WiMAX. LTE was already anticipated to be the world standard so Dan Hesse announced in a keynote that WiMAX would give them "first to market" 4G service and retain their spectrum holdings plus give them the option to switch to LTE. Since WiMAX and LTE are basically the same technology, Sprint made a wise choice in spite of what people think.

They do that actually and also the service isnt bad with Sprint at all. As for this whole situation it has only been complicated because of Dish it was a good plan A to begin with but LTE is the standard so the company needs to adjust the 2.5ghz frequncy will play a very large role in Sprints Vision Network that is why they are trying to acquire Clear so they can refarm and complete their Network Vision.
