Consumer Unfriendly

It's so infuriating how unfriendly Verizon and AT&T are becoming to consumers. It seems like every time you turn around, they're both doing something that negatively impacts their consumers. Their plan prices are RIDICULOUSLY high, they no longer offer early upgrades, they continually add additional taxes and fees to increase their profits, and they force customers into their "newer" rate plans that often don't offer any benefits.

I'm really ashamed to be a Verizon customer, but given the fact that they cover everywhere that I go the best, its hard to even think about switching to the little guys.

at&t does indeed offer early upgrades.....I upgraded in July 2012 to a Blackberry 7 device.....and then I upgraded again just two days ago to a Blackberry Z 10...they called it an 'early upgrade' because I was only 10 months into a 24 month contract, but I got the full upgrade pricing. The only thing they said they weren't willing to budge on was the upgrade fee...but when I get my bill I'm calling about the fee, and I'll bet dollars to donuts that I can get it waived... It's true that to qualify for the early upgrade offer you have to have good credit, a spotless record of paying all your bills on time, and it helps to have a certain degree of 'seniority' so to speak and you may have to do a little negotiating to get the agent to agree to...

Did you read the article? It clearly states from AT&T's mouth that they will no longer offer early upgrade discounts other than the measly discount they give after 6 months. The only reason you got an early upgrade was because the policy hasn't been implemented yet. 🤨

I read it, my point is that I know from my own experience as both a customer and employee of at&t that 'at&t policy' is a joke that no one actually abides by...the early upgrade I just did was something that technically, according to policy, I wasn't actually eligible for.....but I got it anyway because I know how to work the system.....

When I worked for at&t, the corporate office used to actually PUNISH you if you would abide by policy and a customer was unhappy....if you were insistent that policy had to be followed, then at&t corporate would tell you to back down and just give the customer what he wanted....if a customer asked to be given a credit and you refuse to give it, you can get suspended or even fired for it, even if the cr...

Blah,Blah,Blah! I am sure AT&T does go by the books in most cases. I bet they won't bend and give unlimited data to someone who cry's about not getting it. Maybe this is a reason that when you go into a store 3 months later like everyone that works there is different! Heck maybe this so called not following "Policy" is why you are a "Former Employee" Yes in most cases they can make a bend to the rules if the situation meets certain guidelines but either way it is following a policy in the end. Stop taking up for the big brothers of wireless you come off as a shill when you take up for these companies.

Why is it that you believe yourself to be above this fee - while everyone else has to pay it? You're loyal? I'm loyal to my gas station and electric company - I don't get anything for it. They provide me a service, and I pay for it.

I always hated people who thought they were above certain fees and treatment. It's that entire attitude of "Oh, other people pay it, but not me, I'm a special snowflake".

I agree. I work for ATT and I hate when people call in and cry until the upgrade fee waives...

I agree. It's true that I don't like the upgrade fee and I may not always agree that pricing is fair; however, if you sign up with a carrier, you are agreeing to those charges when applicable. So to call and complain that you've been charged a fee to which you agreed is rather unfair and irrational. If you feel that the fee is unfair, then you should not have performed the act that incurred the fee or you should not have entered into agreement with that provider. As I said, I too dislike paying the fee and I'm not at all convinced that the price is right for the equipment or the service; however, if I agree to it, then it's only my own fault.

Who cares, if they don't wave the fee, they give your account a credit for $25. And this goes for all carriers. They get enough out of me, if I can get a little credit every few years fine. But I don't cry over it.

My attitude is that when I worked for at&t, I waived upgrade fees about 50 times a day, I waived them for every person who asked me to, and I was told by management that if I didn't waive them I would be in trouble....

So....the way I look at it is 'if no one else has to pay the upgrade fee, and I know they don't because I waived the damn thing 50 times a day, then I'm not going to pay it either'

We were told by at&t corporate to waive the fee for everyone who asks us to, because no one at corporate cares about the upgrade fee....the upgrade fee is charged largely for the purpose of having something to waive if a customer gets bitchy and you need to calm them down....

The upgrade fee is a bogus fee....everyone knows it....the reason it is charged is as a negotiating tactic...you have a customer who is angry for one reason or another and you need to calm him down....you waive the fee..the customer thinks he has 'won' because he pulled one over on the big multinational conglomerate....when in fact he didn't win anything, all you did is waive a fee that no one cares about in the first place....

Why do we charge an upgrade fee? So ...
