Mistake in the article.

The post states that Sprint will deploy CDMA 3G (i.e. EV-DO) on the 800MHz band. That is incorrect. Sprint is/will deploy CDMA 1X on that band in addition to LTE in the future. However, EV-DO will NOT be deployed on 800MHz.

No, technically, the article is accurate because both CDMA1X and EV-DO are 3G.

But, yes, Sprint has sufficient rebanded SMR 800 MHz spectrum in most markets to deploy one CDMA1X 800 carrier and one 5 MHz FDD LTE 800 carrier, just no EV-DO 800 carrier.
