Am I wrong to be offended by this? I feel like they are just employing Jennifer Lopez to try to "grab" Latino customers. I mean, I know she is a huge star with them, but is this really the right thing to do ?

No.

Viva Movil is Jennifer's company. She spent her own money to launch it. Verizon is simply her partner.

Would it be accurate to refer to it as an MVNO of sorts?

Nope. It's just a chain of retail stores that sells Verizon's stuff. MVNO would require Viva Movil to have its own billing, back-end systems, devices, branding, etc.

Sounds like a fancy form of pandering to me.

Me too, sounds like it is a grab, and that they are only doing this specifically to try and get more of that specific customer base. I am never a fan of moves like this. This would be like using Jerry Seinfeld to try to get more Jewish customers, or using Will Smith to try to get more african-american customers. These kinds of moves just leave a bad taste in my mouth.
