And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is the phone that'll get me to convert to Cingular GSM (I was thinking Tmobile, but I worried about 850mhz roaming on Tmobile and Cingular's networks). Also, the only other thing I didn't like about the z500 (STN main screen) has been fixed (TFT). Yowza!

You can't take out 1900 as that is used in Europe, Asia, etc.

The 850 band is US/Canada only so you see many phones with 900/1800/1900 that SE lists as i or international phone and many with 850/1800/1900 that are listed as a or for the americas.

Both the z520a and z520i are quad-band phones though, 850/900/1800/1900

That's great news. I just might be getting this phone at the end of the year.

I currently own a z500 and I have to say that it's one of the best phones I've ever come across. Seeing the z520 with all of the extra or upgraded features really says something to me. This phone is going to be amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I read that muchdrama thinks that the American version might be watered down but seeing as how great the z500 on its own, the z520 won't be disappointing. 😁

By watered down I mean stripping away the 900 and 1800mhz capabilities. It could definitely happen. Since I travel to Ireland 3 times a year, I'd like my z520 intact, thanks.

I wasn't clear on the fact that you were talking about the bands when you stated that the phone may be watered down. For your purposes that would really defeat the appeal of this phone.

Otherwise, the average user wouldn't mind the lack of those bands, seeing as they would never have a use for them. Also, the lack of those bands could possible cut down on the overall size and weight of the phone, which to many, is a plus.

I have to say that the z500 at best is ... Blah! It looks like a fischer price toy, and the z520 looks the same. good for a mid-range phone, but ugly.

What an insightful review. Nevermind that it's quad-band, takes video and pictures, has an upgraded, TFT screen, and now has a color exterior screen as well. And Bluetooth. Yeah, it's horrible.

Those features are a great upgrade from the z500. As far as I can see, they have fixed everything that most people complained about, though, so it's great that they are listening to feedback and acting upon it. The only thing that concerns me about this phone are the dimensions and the feel of it. I went into a Cingular store when I was getting ready to purchase the z500, and the minute I picked up the dummy phone, I changed my mind. To me, it was a little to bulky and square-ish, and way too plasticky. Hopefully SE has improved upon that as well. It looks like a really nice phone - I just hope it doesn't cost an arm & a leg!

You referenced the z500 not having a color external screen in another thread, too. The z500 doesn't have a monochrome external screen, it remains the same in the z520, a 4k color external screen. However, the external screen is slightly larger in the z520.

Slip of the tongue. No harm done.
