Then maybe Microsoft wouldn't have to make their own?

If I was Microsoft, that is EXACTLY how I would respond.

That's silly. The inverse logic that Google would counter with is: if anybody owned a Windows Phone, maybe we would divert resources to making one. In the meantime, if the app does what Google claims it's a clear violation of copyright laws as well. Open. Shut.

Except that that isn't their real logic, their real logic is more like 'we refuse to support Windows Phone because we want to prevent that platform from becoming a threat to us'....

They don't make apps for Blackberry either.....the Blackberry YouTube App is made by Blackberry.

And you know WHY the Windows Phone You Tube App doesn't show ads? Because Google blocks the ads from being shown. Seriously..first they block the ads and then complain when the ads don't show up.

Google is being childish and petty here.

And honestly I hope this goes to court. Google can talk all they want about 'terms of service'....but terms of service are not legally enforceable...and I want to see an official ruling from a court that EULA's are the ...

In return they just want access to their API's.

Funny how MS can produce a better app though. I'd love the option to download videos and also avoid ads in the process. I try to avoid watching videos on my phone just because the ads get ridiculous sometimes. Thank god for ad block plus on PC browsers.

But Google DOES make an app for iOS, which is their biggest competitor. If they wanted to hurt competitors by not allowing them to have access to YouTube, going after iOS is a no-brainer. And YouTube isn't even baked into iOS anymore, so, once that change was made, all Google had to do was not write an app for the App Store. Ditto for all the other Google apps you can get for iOS.

Because IOS came first, and because if they pulled their services their intentions would be too transparent,....come on even Google isn't so bold as to claim that iOS doesn't have a big enough market share to justify their making apps for it....

In addition, even a monopoly trying squash competition has to be careful to not completely wipe out all their opposition. At one point, Microsoft gave Apple something like $200 billion to keep them afloat....but would anyone seriously argue that this proved that Microsoft had never engaged in anticompetitive behavior? Of course not. Google can't afford to be too aggressive, they have to leave at least one competitor, or else it will become obvious what they are trying to do.

And the fact...

But Blackberry doesn't compete with them on search so why would they pull their support for blackberry devices. Isn't building marketshare about getting your product in the hands of the most amount of people? So if they had a google search app on Blackberry doesn't that only help Google and not hurt them?

Youtube is a Google owned service. Therefore, it is a Google service. You want Youtube app get an Android or iPhone. If not open the browser and type Youtube.com. Done.

Eh...I think microsoft has given google enough time to develop their own app. They didn't, so microsoft did. In fact microsoft has asked google on several instances for the API to go ahead and create the youtube app themselves. Google refuses to give it to them.

Interestingly enough, if it's just about not showing ads, then why isn't google asking for the removal of metrotube and a billion other youtube apps out there?

Precisely....and that is why the rational person has to conclude that there is more to Google's decision than meets the eye. Their selective outrage is very disingenuous.

Exactly. There's no reason why they shouldn't! WP's market share is growing:

WP's market share is rivaling the iPhone in Russia and many other markets. Google is just being petty because they're afraid of the threat. And it's ultimately the consumers who pay. 😕
