There are any number of apps in the Play Store that allow the downloading of YouTube videos. Good luck trying to stop all of them!

Difference is, Google does not own those apps, and therefore has no liability with what is performed via those apps (copyright infringement, piracy). Youtube they do own, and so if youre downloading videos directly from a youtube app, then its their problem.

Yeah...right..sure it is....it has nothing to do with Google wanting to protect its predatory monopoly....

And I'm sure the reason why, since Mountain Lion, OS X has its default settings to block apps from being installed from anywhere the App Store is because App is concerned about security, and not because they are trying to lock people in so they have to buy all their software from Apple.

For the record, Nokia alone has sold more than 10 million Windows Phones....

Uh, yes, they want exclusive control over how content from their own service is distributed. Duh.

And some uploaders on Youtube don't want their videos to be downloaded and redistributed. Google ought to act to protect that.

By refusing to make official apps for Windows Phone, Google is trying to block Windows Phone from becoming a popular platform....

They can say all they want that they don't do it because 'Windows Phone doesn't have enough market share' but the fact of the matter is that as long as there are no Google apps, Windows Phone can NEVER gain market share in the first place.

Why would Google care if Windows Phone became a popular platform? Google doesn't make any money on Android...I know you are probably laughing right now and saying, "Yeah, right."

What does google make their money on? Ads. Google search. So even if Windows Phone became the dominate mobile phone platform, people will still use Google search and google ads and make tons of money.
