I think it is unwise to underestimate the loyalty and strong sense of attachment that Blackberry users tend to have for the brand. It is every bit as strong as the most fanatical Apple user.

Now, I know what you're likely thinking 'if they are so loyal, why have so many used switched to other platforms?'

And the reason can be summarized in one word: bandwagon.

At it's height, the Blackberry was very hip and trendy, everybody felt they had to have one. It was the 'it' device, every bit as much as the iPhone once was, and every bit as much as Android is now.

The people who left, are the bandwagoners, the ones who jump to whatever is hip and trendy at the moment. The ones who are left now are the ones who feel a strong sense of loyalty to the brand. Especially when you're talking about people who have had 3,4,5,6 Blackberries over the years. These people have stuck with Blackberry even through all the nonsense of the last few years, these are people who are not looking for reasons to switch, they are looking for reasons to stay.

There's tons of messaging platforms out there, Yahoo Mesaging, AOL, Windows Live, Google Talk. They could just as easily switch to one fo those platforms.

They stay with Blackberry because they like it.
