Having BBM on Android or iOS will not take the only thing BB have that other platforms don't? Yes there is Whatsapp and other apps but BBM is the selling point for some people, will see how all this goes...

What it actually means is increased revenue for Blackberry AND increased relevance for a platform that has been out of the spotlight for too long....both very good things.

The one thing that kept current Blackberry users from jumping ship is now going to be available to everyone. If they thought their phone sales numbers were poor before...

On the contrary, offering it to everybody else is what will prevent people from jumping ship. The biggest thing making people jump is the isolation factor, the fact they don't know anybody else who has a Blackberry and therefore can't use any of the really awesome features....now hat is not a concern anymore. You can stick with Blackberry and no longer be a pariah.

I don't think there's anybody, or at least not a particularly large group of people, who want to drop Blackberry for another platform but feel they can't do so due to their loyalty to BBM.

There are however many people who want to stay with Blackberry but feel they can't do so because none of their friends have Blackberry and thus the chief advantage of Blackberry is of absolutely no use to them anyway.

Making BBM available for other platforms is unlikely to cause many to jump ship and join those other platforms. It will however provide an incentive for those who are already with Blackberry to stay loyal to Blackberry rather than jumping ship.

I totally understand what you're saying, I just think its the complete ooposite. Of course I can't speak for all Blackberry users, but the ones I know that are still holding on do so because of their BBM contacts. Espcially my friends with family overseas, its the cheapest way they can communicate without a computer.

BB user comes due for an upgrade. They walk in the store and can get the iPhone, a Galaxy phone, the HTC One or a BB10 device, you really think they're going to go for the BB10?

I think it is unwise to underestimate the loyalty and strong sense of attachment that Blackberry users tend to have for the brand. It is every bit as strong as the most fanatical Apple user.

Now, I know what you're likely thinking 'if they are so loyal, why have so many used switched to other platforms?'

And the reason can be summarized in one word: bandwagon.

At it's height, the Blackberry was very hip and trendy, everybody felt they had to have one. It was the 'it' device, every bit as much as the iPhone once was, and every bit as much as Android is now.

The people who left, are the bandwagoners, the ones who jump to whatever is hip and trendy at the moment. The ones who are left now are the ones who feel a strong sense...

Have you ever have a BB? I do, and honestly it is good to have your friends at hand with just one BBM, BUT all over, it just don't worth it, people wh still have BB is because of their contacts, YES now with the BBM spread out to the others platforms some might keep their BB and stay loyal as you say, but reality, if you could switch from a Z10 or a HTC one, what would you choose? That's the detail
