I'm confused . . . Sensor has been available of the Nokia website for quite a while now (or the European website, at least).

I thought it sounded funny, so I downloaded it on my Nokia a while ago to test (just as a test - really! 😲ops🙂 . . . no one here uses it, and I'm not sure if I'd want a radio transmitter broadcasting to everyone that I'm single anyhow, but it is an interesting idea.

It was kinda cool to set up a profile that other people in the area can see, and also to be able to browse through theirs and chat if you want. The only bad thing is that because it uses bluetooth, the range is pretty limited.

Nokia has demonstrated this application previously at conferences and such for quite a few times, however it was only a proof of concept then. the official release was today but like many mobile phone companies, nokia often post things on their site long before they are officially launched.

This is also the first launch of an application like this for the west from any major company, adding another dimension of "newness." Similar applications, though few using Bluetooth, have been out in Asia for some time, and have enjoyed popularity in South Korea and more open Chinese markets such as Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Ah . . . now that makes sense!

I was genuinely confused because I had already downloaded it and now it was all over the mobile phone blogs and sites like this. It's an interesting idea - kind of like Siemens' (I think) idea to allow people to post electronic feedback on businesses, resturants, etc. that can be viewed later by other people on their mobile devices.

When I tried Sensor - it was at my store and there was no one in range to find. ☹️ I think it would work best in a bar or a club where there's a lot of people in a closed location. I wonder if it'll catch on . . .

Say, wouldn't it be fun if you could leave feedback on someone's Sensor profile that could be viewed by other people later - like eBay. That would be really i...

IDk it could be cool if you were in a classroom or something you could chat over BT, but I wouldnt want to meet people that way, unless you were like in a busy place and had nothing better to do (Theme park lines) Im going to Cedar Point in a week and it would be cool to chat with other people while in line for hours.

You may want to avoid lines such as "Wow, you're phone is REALLY hot...and so are you!" when the person you're hitting on is within a 30 foot range.

What are you talking about? That was a mild attempt at humor...and I was correcting no one. If you want to chew on some of my posts, pick the ones where I'm downright mean.

yeah I'm thinking more on the lines of knowing the people im talking to while in the classroom such as friends or at least people you sort of know. the meeting people over BT though seems a bit outrageous considering most people with BT phones never have their BT on or able to be seen by other devices.

And besides, the range of Bluetooth is what, 30 feet? Get off your ass and walk over and say "Hi". Works for me.
