..to remember how certain US Cellular employees/supporters were so adamant about how it did not need the Iphone, and how US Cellular was so smart in declining it. Well I guess US Cellular finally saw how important a highly popular device really is. Losing 51,000 customers in a quarter (esp being a small company) will do that to you.

I prefer to call it the "cult phone" than a "highly popular phone"

People lose their individuality when they have the Fruit Phone. Same old, same old.

When you said Fruit phone it reminded me of Forest gump.. he invested in a Fruit company (apple) and it made him rich.

You're right, it is a cult phone. It sucks you into the melting pot and you become one of them. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Lol 🤣 !!!

I'm having me a good ole time with my *Galaxy S4* by the way. Yesterday I took it to the mall and had Ghost Armor put on it, kinda like Simonizing a car, just for a phone. Cost me just under $34.

I intend on having this beast of a smartphone for a long while.

I personally prefer Android phones and am probably getting the S4 or Note 2. However, I think it was a bad business decision for US Cellular not to carry a phone that was extremely popular...Whether it is a "cult phone" or not is irrelevant in the business world. It is only important if it sells well or not,

True, like the big two reeeeally need some competition,
and it having the IPhone gains Tmobile customers,
then yay!!! I'm all for Tmobile having the IPhone especially
uf it'll help them gain customers, and steal customers
from the big two.

It already has, this is the first time that T-Mobile is actually adding customers like in the last two years. Their market share is increasing. I'm not talking about taking over MPCS, I'm talking about people actuially changing to T-Mobile.

what they are doing is working.

With TMO if one really wanted an iPhone (prior to recent events) they could have it, just pay the full cost and get an unlocked phone strait from Apple. CDMA and its locked down phone options (in the US) doesn't provide that option.

It wasn't that USC didn't want it, but the reality was USC couldn't afford to pay the large premium of even selling Apple products and pay to have a 4G network built.

Choosing between the two at the time the Iphone was offered to USC originally would probably be an easy decision for you as well. 4G and no Iphone, or Iphone and no 4G.

As a USC rep I'm glad we are getting it. I do think people are sheep when it comes to apple products and want it because of the name, but if it was a bad product it wouldn't sell. It does sell however so I'm glad we will be carrying it. Won't have to answer why we don't carry it anymore also, so sick of that.

Nice, its good to hear samsung is making a high-quality product in the galaxy S 4. No matter what you have on your phone, though, the best defense is never dropping it. Don't even test it.

One of my buddies had an iPhone 4, he was getting an otterbox for his girlfriend. Put it on the phone, rep at store told him this would protect it from any / all drops. So, my very dumb friend decided to test that out by dropping it from about 4 - 5 feet up, WITH an otter box on.

Lets just say he had to buy a new iphone 4.

Never understood people like that who wish to tempt fate. Be it an iPhone, SGS4, HTC One etc... I don't carer for otterbox cases, makes any device looks ugly, turns a small phone into a brick. I do understand some people do to jobs or high active lifestyles might need something like that. Bet Meh.

Jay to be honest, the cultism is to both OS's. Just look at that new Nokia commerical its funny with the Android and iPhone users going at it with all the sterotypes. BTW, I use a Nexus 4.

Back to the topic, love or hate, thats what a good percentage of what their customers want.

The difference being there is one fruit phone to choose from, lol, whereas with Android there are numerous manufactures, low end, mid range, high end, different screen sizes, it took Apple 5yrs to come out with a phone bigger than 3.5in's.

So I say the IPhone is a culture because their all the same.
That's the reason.

I find it amusing that USCC said that they didn't need to carry the iPhone and once the Chicago, St. Louis and Indiana markets were to be transitioned to Sprint then suddenly the mentality changed to lets get the iPhone. Weird how it happens that way...

Maybe it is not US Cellular who changed, maybe it's Apple who offered more reasonable terms......the originals terms Apple offered would have basically bankrupted US Cellular....kind of like the iPhone has badly hurt Sprint's profitability, with Dan Hesse admitting that it will be at least 5 years and maybe more before they start to see a return on the money they paid to get the iPhone

It's highly doubtful that Apple is the one that blinked when USCC is the one that's hurting.

And how do you know what the original terms were between Apple and USCC?

Yeah, imagine Apple, who did not cave in to ATT who has 90+ million customers, or Verizon who has 90+ million customers, or Sprint who has 50+ million customers, or T-Mo, who has 40+ millions, decides to cave in to mighty US Cellular, who has a little over 5 million customers. Imagine that!

You seem to not be following the business news recently....Apple's stock price has dropped more than 1/3 in the last 8 months....and there is no end in sight....I'm not saying they are in trouble....but they need to find the bottom soon....

And Apple's profits are down 18% from last year,,,in fact in his most recent meeting with shareholders, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, simply and directly that 'we acknowledge that our growth has slowed and our margins have decreased'....

And the new emphasis Apple has put into the low end market, with the iPad Mini and the $50 iPhone 4, has increased sales, while lowering their profit margins while hurting the long term revenue projections. (So Apple has belatedly discovered the problem with the 'race...

I think it is a reach to assume that just because Apple's stock has declined, they changed their hard fast rules for the benefit of US Cellular, who is not a big player in the wireless game. Without any other evidence it is just hard to believe that.

Being that US Cellular lost 1/2 million customers in a quarter, with the admission from its CEO that the lack of the Iphone was a big reason, it seems more logical that US Cellular just caved in, in a last ditch effort to end its churn.

I know it is because the amount that Apple was demanding was widely reported...including right here at Phone Scoop....it was an absurdly high amount, much more than US Cellular could possibly hope from make from selling iPhones.

Or maybe Apple decided to back down and offer more reasonable terms....

Surely the fact that Apple's stock price has been plummeting in value, that their sales are stalling has made an impact on their restrictive policies.

I mean....Apple is getting so desperate that they've started paying dividends to their share holders, which is something they have NEVER done before....

Actually the iPhone is no longer "important" or a relevant phone. Sure it helps but to be honest they didnt lose all their customers because of the iPhone. They lost them because of the sub par coverage, insanely expensive plans, and lack of 4G coverage.

I actually have to disagree...While I do not like US Cellular, there coverage has always been good, and they have the majority of their network in 4G. Their plans are expensive though
