GPS Always on

I signed into my Google and now the GPS arrow is always on. And under location services it's highlighted purple next to Google.
Turned it off and the icon went away. I would think this would be a battery drain issue if Google Now is always using your GPS location.

Google Now is a location based service, so you do need the GPS to be turned on to use it

Right. But wouldn't you want the app to use when you open it. Not leave the GPS always running?

The point of Google Now is that instead of having to look up information (as with Siri) it proactively gives you the information before you ask for it.

So if you want, say the weather, you don't ask it to give you the weather, you just look at your screen and low and behold, the weather information is already there for you before you asked for it.

Google Now learns your patterns so that it can tell you what you want to know without asking.

That is why you don't turn it on and off.

As far as the effect on battery life, I haven't noticed one since my Galaxy Nexus was upgraded to Jelly Bean last summer.

But it doesn't always have to be on, does it? Just turn it on when needed.

If it's not always on then it's not Google Now....it's just....Siri....only inferior because you can't talk to it
