Most other countries already have Phone numbers available through a VoIP provider, and some will even give them to you for FREE. I'm surprised this isn't already available in the US.

I use a voip service called Text+, I think it's based out of Sweden, when I signed up, they gave me, for free, a phone number that can also receive incoming calls, and can be called from anywhere in the world. I have never given them a single cent of real money and they gave me my own phone number.

Yes its not bad. But they realistically only give you like 1 minute of free voice minutes. The rest you would have to pay to make calls using that voip number. You can text all day on it tho which is pretty cool.

Jailbroken iPod, paired with bluetooth headset, + MBB (mobile broadband) device for wifi connection = a smartphone (p...

I use Pinger for sms and while you have to buy minutes to make calls I can receive incoming calls for free on it. I've also used the Magic Jack app which is free both in and out but has some limitations on incoming calls.
