Cing's corporate plans are also like this--and to make matters worse, the alpha tag no longer tells you if you're in extended or not.

I suggest looking at GSMWorld's coverage maps for Cingular, since they show the original coverage. Not outdated mind you, but without roaming agreements. Wireless companies have very small original service areas. T-Mobile's looks most impressive, since most of its coverage is not leased out through roaming agreements...
