What company makes sense to purchase this?

I would assume existing holders of AWS spectrum.

Verizon has a ton, so they have to convince the FCC to let them buy.

T-Mobile will be a buyer as long as their customer numbers/revenues pick up.

I could see AT&T getting back into AWS in a big way through this auction. They need to decide if they are completely in or out of AWS. No reason to go half way.

If Dish is actually going to get serious, they could purchase some.

Regionals like US Cellular could fill out their 4g coverage with this.

One company I don't see taking any part of this auction is Sprint.

I also see AT&T participating. With their merger with T-Mo failing, they owed lots of spectrum to T-Mo, so they may be looking to top-up with this auction.

I think ATT, Vzn, and Sprint all have plenty of spectrum, I'd like to see T-Mobile get it, but the FCC should attach a rule to expand or something. I really, really want to see Tmo try to grab some more customers.

Assuming that their merger with metropcs gets approval from shareholders, t-mobile will also have "plenty" of spectrum. In fact, I believe that it's been mentioned hat they would have more spectrum per subscriber post-merger. There's no reason for them to get any preferential treatment.

Sure would be nice if T-Mobile did some actual expanding, nit just upgrading,... but we all know that isn't going to happen.

They have actually- they been purchasing spectrum and just purchase MetroPCS. Look for them to be aggressive in this upcoming spectrum.

Yeah well, I still doubt all this spectrum will result in Tmo doing any actual expansion, which should've taken place like 10 years ago.

well they did do a lot of expansion when they acquired a lot of spectrum 🙂 or else how would their network increase in both capacity and coverage?

Capacity is spectrum, coverage is cell towers.

I won't be surprised if I end up with Tmo later this year, I'm just waiting for smartphones with the Snapdragon 800 to reach the market, I want that QuickCharge 2.0 technology!

well you need spectrum to utilize coverage/cell towers and capacity. 🙂

800 is coming soon.

800 can't come soon enough!
Preferably on a 4.3-4.5 inch screen, not 5.0+++!!!
I'm ready not into these Monster phones! 4.3-4.5 is just fine, fits in the hands just fine.

5"+ is great and all, but I feel OEMs should stick with the smallest possible screen size until the general public can handle phones that large. I constantly get people telling me the 4.5" screen on the SII is too big, so...baby steps.

I agree, I have the Droid Charge, 4.3in screen, fits
in my hands just fine.

I want my next smartphone to have the Snapdragon 800.
So I'm just waiting for that. Might switch to T-Mobile,
they are a more favorable company to people who can't afford to pay full retail for a smartphone.

There is no problem with TMO bidding and winning this spectrum, but no financial breaks for them to obtain it. DT is one of the largest telecommunications corporations in the world, and they can easily afford to bid on an equal terms with AT&T and VZW,

yea i agree with you on this. VZW has to worry about a potential VZ and VOD tie up. there have been talks that Vodafone would acquire the remaining percentage and vice versa.... values VZW at $115 billion. so it shall be interesting. Spectrum is key these days and thats why there are auctions and companies buying out each other.

I wouldnt say who cant afford. They just offer a better solution (T-mobile USA) than the other carriers as indicated in their value plans. they typically give better corporate discounts too on classic lines.

Remember to check coverage with T-Mobile. They are a little like Sprint, "Spotty" once you start to venture off of more densely populated areas.
