If you were a phone manufacturer...
Would you focus mostly on creating high end devices with the top hardware/software features, or on low end devices that usually somehow end up in a Walmart prepaid section or gas station counter (such as what Huawei usually does)?

Yeah I know lol, but the question is serious though. If you are a phone manufacturer, which strategy would you take:focusing on making high end devices or trying to dominate the low end market?

I would try to make devices that I thought more people would buy to make the most money. Probably go for middle of the road, nothing as expensive as a Galaxy Note II, maybe $350-$500 smartphones, like the GS II.

I would do whatever my business strategy allows me to be good at! If I were a premium brand such as Apple then I would only make high end phones. Worked for them. So it depends on overall business strategy.
If I was Samsung and could do all 3 then great. Samsung seems to be able to make low end phones, middle tier and high end. And hard to argue with their success. HTC only focused on high end phones.
In my opinion the ability to offer choice is a very powerful ability to sell to consumers. Which is why I feel Samsung has done very well. Both in US and over sees.
Huawei and most Chinese manufacturers only seem to be good at one thing. Price. They think that consumers only want the cheapest. That is the case in China. ...
