The major carriers are looking at T-Mobile and how they do with the non contract plans with financing the phones. If it works out well at&t, Sprint and Verizon would follow suit probably.
The industry will change the carriers will not have to pay high commissions to their agents for acquiring new customers and subsidizing phones.

One of the previous post spoke about prepaid being 3G not 4G on some carriers. It is like that on Verizon Wireless for smartphones. An iPhone 4 or 4s on a post paid plan is $100 for unlimited talk text and 2 Gigabytes of data, the same plan prepaid is $70.

I had a plan with at&t which I was grandfathered with unlimited data for $15 that worked on my Motorola Atrix Android phone but when I switch phones they bumped me up to a $30 3 Gigabyte plan. That put my bill at $80 before tax with 450 minutes and only 200 text.
I switched to Net10 for $50 with unlimited everything and the phone which happens to be a unlocked T-Mobile Samsung Note 2 is now on Net10. This is the first month with the Note 2 and so far so good. I also have a Apple iPhone 4s on Net10 for three months now.
