Good Plan

Unfortunately, carriers and OEMs will botch this plan. Except Nokia, maybe. But, if MS decides to make their Surface phone, that may be an issue.

I'm a follower of most tech. However, since I own a Nokia 920 and a Surface Pro, yes, I like to know what's going on with them more so. I would say that anyone who has invested in tech by a particular company, will follow them.

So, to answer your underline question, I am a fanboy of sorts. Although, I'm not delusional like some fanboys of MS or any other platform. I like it, I buy it.

I tend to go for the underdog, anyway. So, BB is on my watch list, too. Lol

How would carriers botch this? I thought Windows Phone updated similarly to iPhones, where Microsoft (or the OEMs) can push the update to all applicable devices at the same time, regardless of the network they're running on....?

Not that this affects me, my little Lumia 710 ain't getting any more updates.

You are right about MS releasing the updates to all phones. However, the carriers still can decide not to push out the update. Now, I could be wrong, but I recall reading something about that a while back. Call me lazy, I really don't feel like looking it up at the moment. But, if I'm wrong, then I will stand corrected.

Lazy ;) Actually, now that I think about it, T-Mobile didn't push the 7.8 update to their Lumia 710s. Can't believe I forgot about that, I was so pissed! I mean, manually flashing the update wasn't terribly hard, but.....still. Never did figure out WHY they refused to push the update. I can't imagine the handful of Lumias on their network would stress their servers at all :\
