They are the biggest liars in the industry. First they advertise they have the biggest 4G network, which they don't. They have the smallest. They show maps with 4G coverage in areas that only have 2G EDGE.
They also claim to have 250 million people covered with HSPA + 4G. The country only has 300 million people, so they're saying they have 83% of the population covered? That's just plain bullsh!t. I travel a lot and it takes a magnifying glass to find their 4G coverage. 90% of their network is 2G EDGE.

sounds like a troll to me... ive traveled quite a bit and all ofthe areas ive been to have been covered by 4g with exception of the boonies... other than that ive had steady 4g coverage... take your rhetoric elsewhere

Well Jon_Doh is primarily correct. Come to Michigan and you can see first hand the sporadic network that is T-Mobile here. While Verizon's 4G LTE covers nearly every corner of the state, T-Mobile only has HSPA+ in our major cities. There are multiple medium-sized cities (with around 30,000-50,000 people apiece) that are left in the dust by T-Mobile. Even metroPCS has 4G covering these cities. T-Mobile only covers them with EDGE. Then when you look at the area outside those medium sized cities, T-Mobile doesn't even exist. That's why most people have Verizon and AT&T: when you're traveling in this state, people don't want to lose service after they get off the expressway or move slightly away from the urban centers.

You must have found their 4G in a major city and then drove around in circles. I travel all over and the only places I find 4G is in large cities and even then the 4G footprint never covers the extent of the city limits or the metro area. Once out of the city you are on Edge, not 3G, but slow painful Edge.
Where I live I have to drive two and a half hours to find the next 4G area and it's Edge all the way in between. There is no 3G anywhere. I have yet to find their 3G anywhere and my phone is capable of picking up the 3G band. When I was in Europe recently I was on T-Mobile and was on 3G.

@shadowleo Either you secretely represent T-Mobile (so your intent is making them look good) or you just happen to be lucky to have good experience where you travel. I am 100% in agreence that in my experience T-Mobile is 85%-90% EDGE ONLY. I live in NC and just BARELY outside of a major metro area you are STRICTLY 2G!! Also many cities with populations of 30-125,000 are 100% EDGE. Congrats on being part of the apparent 1% that has good things to say about the "Barley adequate data network"

Every carrier claims to have the best coverage, speeds, and network. That depends on your exact geographic location and actual topography of where you live. This determines the best network for you in that specific area. So if you are naive enough to actually take those claims literally then only you are to blame. Becaue to realistically expect any carrier to perform as well as they advertise all over the united states is just foolish we are talking about Radio signals ranging from 700mhz to 2.5ghz which are begin emitted from towers in different locations so the signal only goes so far and penetrates so many building materials.
