The answer is yes, absolutely, on both counts.

Who has been in control of this entire thing from day one? Sprint. Who chose Kyocera? Sprint. Who chose Sonim? Sprint. Who failed to properly vet Kyocera's quality? Sprint. Who failed to properly vet the Sonim Strike? Sprint.

It's not that Sprint shouldn't transition off iDEN, and not that Sprint shouldn't cultivate Kyocera, Sonim & other manufacturers...not saying that at all. Rather, Sprint should just, for once, GET SOMETHING RIGHT instead of doing it half-arsed as they always seem to do, further alienating customers each time they flub it. They should NOT introduce any products or features that are not properly vetted...that's Business 101 stuff, and Sprint's track record is so poor, it's obvious they don't grasp even the simplest business principles.

They should have made sure the replacement for iDEN works at least as well, but hopefully better than, iDEN. Unfortunately, according to many, many customer posts on Sprint's own website, Sprint Direct Connect does not perform as well as iDEN. Most customer postings indicate they are having significant negative performance issues with Sprint Direct Connect, and they want their iDEN service back.

Sprint should have made sure their new Sprint Direct Connect phones were at least as good as the Motorola phones their Nextel customers were used to. Unfortunately, both professional reviews and user postings have indicated significant performance & quallity issues with both the Kyocera phones, and now the same bad news for the Sonim Strike. I myself have had to return two Kyocera phones and get back my old Motorolas, for the same performance defects that were later reported independently by the Phonescoop reviewers. Also, if you look at Sprint's own phone shopping website and compare the actual user ratings among all their latest ruggedized PTT phones, the Kyocera models all score significantly lower than the comparable Motorola models.

So, you see, unlike your totally rash, unsupported posting, mine was based on actual, published facts AND my own hands-on experience with both iDEN and CDMA PTT networks, and both Motorola and Kyocera phones.

So getting back to the question in your post: Yes, it IS Sprint's fault that the new Sprint Direct Connect service and the new Sprint Direct Connect phones, are, so far, unreliable & poor performers compared to the Motorola iDEN service & phones that we Nextel customers are used to.

Why should professional reviewers and Sprint's own customers be the ones who have to find all these flaws?

If not Sprint, exactly who would you propose we blame for these ongoing, serial problems with the iDEN replacement PTT service & phones?
