It is concerning. Eric points out that it hasn't been optimized for any US carriers yet, and that is valid. The other side of that coin though is that it wasn't loaded down with all the crapware US carriers love to put on it, so its doubtful the battery will improve a lot, in my opinion. We'll have to watch it.

Poor battery life is a problem endemic to the entire smartphone industry and hardly one unique to Blackberries though. When I put the SIM card into my Galaxy Nexus it often runs down the battery within about 12 hours, when it is doing nothing except sitting in standby mode. Without the SIM card in it, it lasts about 24 hours in standby mode. Sadly that kind of battery life is becoming the norm these days. Moreover, the larger screen is going to run down the battery quicker as well. The Q10 should have better battery life for that reason.

Unfortunately, with poor battery life being very common, until battery life improves one simply has to find a way to make a workaround, such as carrying an auxiliary battery.

I've taken to turning my phone on airplane mode when I'm not using it, mainly while sitting in class. The buildings at my university are killer to signal, and it wasn't uncommon for my phone to burn over 10% battery (and overheat in my pocket) trying to look for signal. In airplane mode, it doesn't lose a single percent.

I think we need two things to significantly improve battery life in smartphones: energy efficient antennas, and energy efficient screens.

I think another factor with the Z10 is the LTE....LTE murderizes battery life....

Android has a convenient feature that you can look up and see what is using the battery....and generally 'screen' is around 50%....it's mostly the screen, at least for Android.

Funny that the screen is burning battery even when the phone's not on. I think the 'screen' might also double as antenna and other hardware.

I think it is more than the screen size and resolution just requires a lot of battery, even when you're not using it for very long...

get a 3rd party extended battery. It won't be available at first, but thats one of the first accessories I buy with any phone. Higher mah, always lasts longer.
