Blackberry never lost money that I am aware of. They lost market share in markets which is different.
They completely lost most of the US market share due to the explosion of two other platforms.

Take a look at whet is happening at Apple though. IOS has been around since 2007 and risks getting stale. Yes, it gets regular updates every year or so, but if you were using IOS in 2007, you know how to use it now. It's stock has been killed lately. I am already seeing "rise and fall of apple" articles.

Android may have an even bigger issue to deal with. I see this big empire built that Google never made any money off of and a situation similar to what windows desktops have been dealing with. They may not ever be able to do a total rewrite of Android without hurting what already exists. Could go stale to later, Who knows?

RIM was caught off guard, but its not too late either. They are a profitable company and will be in the future even if they have a minute market share
