Resolution
If you encounter this issue, try the following steps and attempt to enable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth after each one.
1.Verify that Airplane Mode is off.
2.Restart your iOS device
3.Update your iOS device
4.Reset Network Settings, by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
5.Restore your iOS device in iTunes.

Damn, that's some good support right there. I have a very very similar problem but it only happens when I put the screen to sleep. The wifi icon dissapears when the screen is off - I know this becuase as soon as I turn it on, the wifi icon is missing, and takes usually .5 - 2 seconds to come back on, I realise this might be for power saving, BUT, sometimes when this happens, the device loses its network connection, and I can't get text messages or anything like that. Haggard, do you have a support document that can assist me?

From what I've researched, it's to conserve battery life as it needs a constant connection regardless if you are using data or not and would cause a battery drain. It will cut off from Wifi and rely on 3G service for notifications and such as it will use data only when needed to receive messages. I've noticed that before as well, but never thought about it as it usually reconnected within a few seconds.

This is akin to their strategy of reformatting your hard drive instead of admitting the bloatware they install on their computers might actually be causing a problem. Some people might prefer a solution that "actually" fixes the problem.

When I called Toshiba customer support for help with one of my laptops because I couldn't back up the hard drive they said 'okay the first thing we are going to try is to format your hard drive, have you backed it up?'......And I said 'I can''t perform a back up, that's the entire problem!' I just refuse to believe that it could really be standard procedure to format your hard drive as the first step of a troubleshooting process. And the worst thing is, if I had formatted the hard drive, I'd be completely screwed, I didn't have a Windows installation disk.

Not sure how you got to talking about Best Buy and talking about bloatware..but alright?

The restore option is if all other options fail.
No need to be condescending, this is directly from Apples Support page that is supposed to resolve the issue. It's called "troubleshooting".

>>Not sure how you got to talking about Best Buy and talking about bloatware..but alright?

Not sure why you can't see the similarities between what you're doing and what they do, but alright.

>>The restore option is if all other options fail.

Which I would gander is what happens 90% of the time.

>>No need to be condescending,

Why? Do you have a patent on that?

>>this is directly from Apples Support page that is supposed to resolve the issue.

Right, except that I'm guessing most people find themselves having to do the restore in order to "resolve the issue". But I don't think that's a solution many people are happy with, especially considering the original poster's concerns, which you so condescendingly responded to wit...

>>Not sure why you can't see the similarities between what you're doing and what they do, but alright.

Erm, you are referring to a Retail store service that installs their own programs to "fix" issues, I provided a copy and paste straight from Apples Support page referencing a way to fix the issue. No programs to install to fix the issue, just simple steps that can take 2-3 minutes to troubleshoot.

>>Which I would gander is what happens 90% of the time.

I suppose I could pull a percentage out of my butt and try and act all like I know everything about everything too. I wouldn't know, I didn't have the issue, just found the link by a Google Search so I can't say it would require a restore. That's why you process a back up when you c...

And if I referred to you as a certain grey cousin of the horse, you might think I was referring to its tendency to "he-haw" and poop wherever it pleases. But naturally, you would be wrong just as you are here. Your inability to understand analogies and metaphors really isn't my problem, and I won't bother explaining this one to you. But it will suffice to point out to you that my original analogy was in reference to products sold by Best Buy and covered under their service plan. Guess you missed that.

That "some guy" is someone that I speak with frequently. I provided him with the only official supposed fix that is out. Hence why you don't see any other available fixes other than getting the phone replaced by Apple if they can't fix it. Not sure how exactly I was being a jerk when I provided him with the only option that Apple offers online. There was a reason why I asked "Have you tried this?" as the post title and not "you're doing it wrong."

Fair enough. I didn't realize that you had a pattern of helping this guy. The original steps certainly seemed jerky to me. But the fact that you normally offer advice to this guy certainly shines a different light. Now, if you'll excuse me I have a rather large portion of crow to get to.
