The contract is related to the subsidized price the phone was sold for.

There is no 2 year limit on a feature or rate plan.

People who had/have unlimited data on ATT and or Verizon were allowed to keep it after their subsidized phone contract expired.

Verizon stipulated that if you want a new smart phone and unlimited data, they will no longer subsidize the phone.
