Just what AT&T needs

More spectrum they will never use. I just had a look at the FCC website and looked at the spectrum holdings of all the major carriers. As far as AT&T goes - WOW do they have LOTS of spectrum that isn't being used. I also checked T-Mobile, and from what I can see, they only have ONE SINGLE LICENCE for spectrum that is not being used.

Stark contrast between the two.

This is what big greedy companies do. They buy up stuff they never intend to use just so no one else can. Eventually if they control all the resources they can dictate the market. How else do you expect a pseudo-capitalist socialistic big government market to work?

No matter what anybody says, Socialism works. It's pretty obvious that the government has created it own spectrum shortage based on the way they action off and allow the companies to use this spectrum.

Maybe if the spectrum was TRULY government controlled, they could appoint or allot spectrum bands, in equal amounts based on the frequency, and penetration qualities, to each carrier Equally.

This would almost guarantee that spectrum alloted or appointed is actuially used to its full extent. It would make smaller, regional, or even "municipal" carriers have access to the specturm they need to offer decent service, and it would level the playing field to where simply offering "better service" wouldn't be enough, becuase all carrier...

In most parts of a nation that would be ok, but in rural areas its better to have one or two companies build out and have roaming agreements. While in dense populated areas it would be better to have a network who has more people allowed more spectrum so they can sustain its customers.

I do not completely disagree with your point it works wonderful in theory and could work to certain extents. Every philosophy has Pro and Cons that need to be thought through before saying one is better than the other. I think a better way to go about changing our spectrum crisis is to slightly change instead of a radical change you are suggesting. Such the FCC put a limit on how much MHz per X thousands /million people per in a area for example the 700 M...

Yes! I love that Idea - Spectrum is appointed or allotted, or auctioned based on your actual customer base for any given area, and for ACTUAL needs only.

If they could somehow test and for certain determine - This many Mhz serves this many people, then your idea with this system would probably be best. I mean right now the big issue is wasted spectrum.

At&t has tonnes of 2.3Ghz spectrum ( I think that's the band) , it doesnt matter if its crappy, they arent using it or touching it at all, its sitting there, and wasting away, while any other carrier could be actively using it to serve people and help get rid of this spectrum crunch.

Yes, running the entire world off of superconductors works wonderfully in theory too. But we're no closer to that pipe dream than we were 20 years ago, unless of course you can convince the rest of the world that eskimo is the way to go. Many things sound great in theory, but external circumstances make them impossible. In the case of socialism the external circumstance is people. But since social structures are comprised only of people, socialism is an impossible social structure.

So no matter the evidence socialism works. Thats a great way to think about things. Usually you know you need proof to back up things like that but I guess that doesn't matter. Thats what people say when all evidence points to their pet theories are wrong. Would love to see any proof of socialism working anywhere.

Hell no! We need another bloodless revolution like the one which transitioned this nation ftom the Articles of Confederation to our current Constitution. We simply need to scrap it. The main thing which needs to go away is the Two Party system. It simply doesn't work. The second problem is the Senate. It is silly that Montana has the same representation there as California. That is undemocratic not to mention foolish. I understand it was a necessary compromise to get the Rhode Islands and Delewares to ratify the Constitution but it has gone on long enough. Of course the Electoral College would go away for the same reason. We need direct representation by the people. Also election day should be a Holiday with all polls open at the ...

I may not go as far as that but I do agree that the electorial college needs to go and that the primaries should be held on the same day or atleast very close together. I also think there need to be more rules about who can and can't vote. I don't want to keep anyone from voting but you atleast need to know something about whats going on in the world.

So, does Scandinavia have a self sufficient economy, or is it another economy that is sucking the life out of free markets like China does? If capitalism fails, will Scandinavia be ok? Because if communism fails capitalism will thrive. Eventually capitalism will thrive anyway. You can only cheat the market for so long. Laws are laws. You can put lots of fuel in an airplane, but eventually it will run out of fuel and gravity will have its say.

Socialism or communism only works in very, very small groups and those who advocate it always tend to ignore the human condition.
I once had a guy who emigrated from a socialist state working under me.
He did as little as possible. I called him on it one day.. his reply...'they pretend to pay me, I pretend to work'....
I have zero reason to 'work' if I get exactly what the person beside me gets for producing less. Human nature.
The only reason the former Soviet Union had any scientific advances at all was because the created a priviledged class of scientists, otherwise they had no reason to excell.

Yes that makes perfect sense because there obviously aren't any greedy people in government. Those people only exists in corporations. The problem obviously isn't that people are corrupt and that too much power in the hands of one person is a bad thing. No the problem is that corporations corrupt people; and the only answer is obviously big government.
