Is all plastic.
No special manufacture processes, no fancy machined metal chassis (which often requires several mechanical processes to achieve) , curved glass surfaces, anodized aluminum or or high grade polycarbonate housing(which also requires several mechanical processes).
They definitely didn't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay respected foreign designers to create it's not utterly beautiful shape; and no need to worry about an specially shaped antenna that fits the design without losing functionality.

High end SOC's retail at about $30 so that makes no "great" difference in the price (the dual core snapdragon is no longer top of the line as well). Throw in a good camera, well powered mini audio amplifier and a really good but not awesome display. Plus have your engineers working a bit harder on the software side of the equation to make the platform very stable (not necessarily as natural feeling as other over-designed and time tested interfaces as HTC's)

You have it. A good in molded-plastic clad smart-phone.
