"The Pantech Discover is an excellent smartphone for the money that easily outperforms devices that cost more than twice as much."

Can you elaborate on this? Are you saying that the phone is "better" than say an S3 or One X? I know the Burst was spec'ed very highly for it's time, but severely lacked in build quality and potential for longevity...

Have they improved on quality itself, rather than just specifications?

I know that you get what you pay for, so why is this product so cheap??

Also, I couldn't find the memory or RAM... 8 GB, 1 Gig RAM? im guessing...

I have to echo this sentiment. They must have skimped out somewhere to get the lower cost, but I just can't find where. Build quality, signal performance and voice quality are the three main things that they could skimp on without it reflecting poorly on the specs sheet, but according to Eric that's all passable.

Eric did say the screen had viewing angle problems and slightly washed out. There's your qualitative difference say between it and the One X which sells on the lower and, is on sale right now on AT&T's website.

Is all plastic.
No special manufacture processes, no fancy machined metal chassis (which often requires several mechanical processes to achieve) , curved glass surfaces, anodized aluminum or or high grade polycarbonate housing(which also requires several mechanical processes).
They definitely didn't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay respected foreign designers to create it's not utterly beautiful shape; and no need to worry about an specially shaped antenna that fits the design without losing functionality.

High end SOC's retail at about $30 so that makes no "great" difference in the price (the dual core snapdragon is no longer top of the line as well). Throw in a good camera, well powered mini audio amplifier and a really g...

Yeah, it appears to be a very cheap, inexpensive phone shell. It doens't look half bad, but that low build quality will get you in the end. I would say, a $200.00 (off-contract) samsung galaxy phone probably has better build quality then this thing.

I repair phones at home (I do not live in the U.S. and belive me there's a lot of ways to get your smarphone fixed for a little fraction of it's price; hahaha thanks to the Chinese replacement parts providers).

Most samsung phones (including some of their top of the line devices) have cheap plastic shells.
The same can be said of LG.
Among the best built devices that I work with, we have HTC, apple and nokia. They most often have sturdy metal frames for the structure plus either high grade plastic or aluminum shells.

Looking at the pics for this review yes the angles are washed out and it looks very cheap if i must say so.
They skimped out on the most important feature of a phone.

The memory is listed on our specs page for the Discover. There's a link at the bottom of each page of the review article, in the "Related" section.

(It has 16 GB of internal storage + 1 GB of RAM.)
