I'm trying to think of a way to build upon this but floundering...

What are allowing their phones to turn into people allowing their phones to turn...

No that doesn't sound right....

What are people turning their phones into allowing them to turn their phones into....

Still not right,,,,

I'll figure this out eventually....

I think the real question is:

Why aren't phones changing into gigantic fighting robots? This is 2013 already...we're in the future it's time to see some future stuff....

I want my flying cars, hover boards and gigantic fighting robots already....

This is why phone battery life is so lousy....all they are interested in doing is just beefing them up with more and more ludicrous and unnecessary specs....but not bothering to even attempt to upgrade the battery.

So you get a phone with an 8 core processer that needs to be charged every 16 minutes...so what?

This reminds of the specs wars on PC's in the early and mid 90's.....all the manufacturers were interested in pushing the number of Megahertz and later Gigahertz, but did it do anything to improve performance? No. All it did was look good on the box that 'we have more MGZ than the other guys'....it was totally useless.

Just like putting an 8 core processor into a phone...

Battery technology has been the same for decades. It is time to figure out a new power source. Why can't someone invent that?

If you read the article this process is 2 quad core processors. One is super fast and eats up battery for power calculations. The other is a slower and battery friendly processor for lightweight calculations and offers 70 percent better battery over the best processors of last year. So in other words faster and better battery life. Read the articles before commenting.

Then you must also not believe that it will take more battery life, since you have no evidence for or against it.

I was actually buying computer parts and building computer systems in the 90's. There were a lot of good innovations and noticeable performance gains made during that era. So, I wholeheartedly disagree.

Jan 9, 2013, 5:59 PM
I didn't say there were no innovations or improvements, I said, specifically that the marketers trumped up the Megahertz and tried to give the impression that the sole measure of speed and performance of a computer was the number of megahertz of its processor, and the more megahertz the better, always....

This...which is widely known as 'the megahertz myth' in tech circles is....to put it bluntly... a bunch of..crap...

It is not even close to being true that the only measure, or even the best measure, of a computer's speed is the number of megahertz of its processor...

In fact....if its often the cast that a computer with fewer megahertz is actually faster than one with more megahertz....

The manufacturers pushed the 'megahertz' ...

Well, yes and no. I agree with the premise of what you're saying, but I think you're a little over board, when you say things like, "its often the cast that a computer with fewer megahertz is actually faster than one with more megahertz". Yes, there is much more to a processor than a clock, but the clock is the speed at which it does what it does. So, with any two processors on the same architecture, the one with the higher clock should be fine.

The problem you are referring to is that the clock speeds of inferior technologies were often touted over superior architectures. This was the marketing strategy that propelled Intel to dominance, although AMD consistently out performed them and significantly undercut them on price during the per...

Well I do agree on the overkill with features. However some people actually do use their phones to the fullest extent possible. If you dont adapt quickly to new features on phones then you dont need a top of the line phone that is why there are iPhones and other limited phones with almost no features are available.

I went from a Sensation with the right amount of features to a Note 2 with feature overkill. However the more I use it the more I find that these features are very useful, I dont show my phone off to anyone thats just straight up retarded and well the comparison is just as ignorant, considering society is very materialistic so everything including shoes and shades are shown off to friends and family.

So....why are you on a mobile device tech site again, since you seem to think smartphones are the devil? Hilarious that you count shades as a "life necessity", but a smartphone which can actually do useful things and save you time, money, and frustration is only for "ignorant" people that become "slaves" to their devices. And comparing using a smartphone to make your life easier to having failed kidneys and being plugged into a dialysis machines?? Lol, ok whatever man.

Don't be mad at me because you said a bunch of stupid stuff along with your opinion.

As well as still being curious why you're here if you don't like mobile phones, I'm also curious if you think any of those insults actually work on anyone older than 15? Way to make so many personal assumptions and judgement on someone you know absolutely nothing about ;p I ain't even 27, bro. But if by "going after [your] worm like a stupid fish" you mean "are bored at work and are calling you out for (obsessively even) saying stupid inflammatory things" then yeah, sure, I'm a stupid fish. Though "your worm" insinuates that you're being an ignorant inflammatory asshole on purpose to get a rise out of someone. Which I guess makes you a troll.

On topic though, since you actually did answer the question finally (sort of).....You like phones, but not smartphones, so what would your ideal phone be? Either one that is available on the market or one you would ideally like. Serious question, I've honestly ...

I like smartphones and tablets because for college I get digital books and take notes on my tablet which help save me money.

Also I like using old smartphones to root and mess with, to apply what I've learn in my computer science classes.

If you like feature phones that's fine, I know several people who just want to call and text and save numbers and that's it. They don't want apps or huge screens and if that's you fine just don't be hateful to people who enjoy smartphones for various reasons.

I use my PC for all equivalent apps that are on mobile devices nowadays.
I have seen 99 out of every 100 people distracted by their mobile devices to the point to where they have been hit by vehicles, walked into the middle of oncoming traffic, fall onto train-tracks and get runover, kill other drivers while using their mobile devices, walking through glass doors, you name it.
There should be a statute that anyone with a heavily featured device that causes unecessary distraction, should be stationary and exercise common sense. A very close friend was smitten with his new I-Phone became so distracted and passed away in such a manner.
I don't hate the devices, just the so called people who have not the smallest shred of common-sense to use ...

I can hardly see what you're complaining about. If you're correct, only 1% of the population remains on the earth. Overpopulation - solved. Global warming - solved. Housing - solved. Food - solved. Heck, we've solved most of the world's problem simply by giving stupid people smart phones. Sounds like they're pretty great to me. But even if the 1% of us remaining on the earth are all men, I'm still not gonna kiss you. You can get over that one 😛

Well, you're the one who said that 9 out of 10 people die because of stupidity when using cell phones. So 90% of that story belongs to you. I just figured that 0.9 out of ten people had to also die because of car accidents, cancer, and toe nail fungus, giving us 99% of the population wiped out. So, its really just a little less that 10% my BS story. 😉
