They need to do a little more then that to take a real bite out of Cingular or Verizon and soon to be SprintNextel.

There coverage is very spotty and voice quality sucks!

It's always nice to see someone give such a well thought out review of a carrier's service. "Sucks!". Great. Very descriptive.

As for the maps, I think it's another reason why Tmobile's customer service is looked upon so fondly. It certainly helps in the trust area as well. It's almost as the company is saying "We may not cover the entire continent like Cingular or Verizon, but we work where you do and we'll even show you".

POW!!! Excellent argument! You must've gone to college!

Look at T-Mobile's Coverage map in comparison to Verizon or Cingular or Sprint's Digital (as in full service) Coverage areas. They are very similar. TM doesn't service Analog systems, hence the smaller coverage area. And they are expanding their coverage area just as much as everyone else.

You pay less for your plan and lose the analog service in out of the way areas. By the way, in the Arizona market, Cingular customers can't port away fast enough to T-Mobi...

In my area Verizon has the best overall coverage, but we still get a lot of port-ins from them because of: 1. Price (esp. no roaming) & 2. Excellent customer service (our store is next to a Verizon corp. store and they have a real knack for making their customers mad). A lot of people don't need coverage way off in the sticks - they never go out of the city - so T-Mo works just fine for them and for less money.

Actually, he is right in that it is all about coverage. I just switched from T-Mobile to Cingular because I grew tired of always having coverage issues as soon as you get off the beaten path or even a hint of a situation that might be considered "stretching it". I've been in these situtaions with others who use different carriers and almost without fail I'm the one without coverage before all others (and yes, I'm a techie so I've been down the path of finding phones noted as holding better signal strength). My wife goes on a couple of bus trips each year with the neighborhood ladies and it's common for her to make her calls back home to check in from other peoples mobile phones because her T-Mobile phone will not work.

The final straw ...

I dunno... I think there'll always be a place for T-Mobile. No, they can't quite compete toe-to-toe with the big boys like Verizon, but as a low-cost, urban-only alternative, they have something to offer.

I'm not so sure I like hearing Tmobile being described as an "urban only" carrier. MetroPCS is an urban only carrier. With Tmobile, you can basically go to any city, major metro area, or travel along any major highway or expressway. Tmobile's a legitimate choice.

Another brilliant assessment. Have you ever USED Tmobile's service? I have.

To add to that..they're not going to lie to you and show you this wonderful coverage map that shows all coverage as the "same quality". What you see is what you get. I think if ALL of the carriers did this, you wouldn't see the "great coverage" that many of the companies tout.

Also to add to that if you look at the coverage map street wise you still don't want. Especially in south Florida T-mobile is the biggest joke carrier i have ever had and i thank god i got out of my contract. And don't give that **** about cheap plans. Cheap PLANS! NO SEVICE WHAT WHAT YOU Pay FOR IS WHAT GET!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you're generalizing from your area to all other areas. For instance - in my area T-Mobile coverage is pretty good overall. They have a pocket roaming agreement that gives them a coverage area just about the same as Cingular or Verizon.

The interesting thing about the maps though is this - our store carries both Cingular and T-Mobile. The Cingular map shows an insane amount of converage in our area whereas the T-Mobile coverage looks so-so because the maps don't show the roaming coverage that is available. The thing is - the Cingular map shows huge amount of NON-EXISTENT coverage. In one case they show coverage for almost an entire county where they have NO coverage. What's really ironic is that the T-Mobile shows no coverag...

Well if you use common sense and deductive reasoning, I guess you wouldn't buy the service if it doesn't work in your area. Myself, coverage is good here. You could really say the same about any carrier. Wouldn't you rather every carrier do this with their coverage map? Or are you one of the fanboy types that just "roots for" the carrier you have. I'd say based on your reply it is the latter...

Good Lord. I live in South Florida as well, people. Tmobile's got the area covered like a glove. I don't know where this guy/gal gets his info.

🤣

Do you post anything constructive?

The fact is T-mobile realizes they have problems and are upfront about them.

This also shows that the company is investing in LONG TERM fixes (increasing the network).

If you elaborated on topics a little more you'd understand; spectrum is really holding the company back at this point more than anything.

The ratings have been displayed. T-mobile was ranked #1 for overall getting what you paid for.

Being ranked #1 for "overall getting what you paid for" might be important for some, but as soon as you talk about pure coverage, it's a completely different game. Sure, in the middle of a major metro area, you should be covered just fine from any of the major carriers. However, for many people, the ability to communicate while on the road or off the beaten path (not complete boonies, but just out and about) becomes of paramount importance. I've seen far too many situations where others are able to use their phones just fine while my T-Mobile phone (or phones over the past few years) have no signal. Again, having good customer service, cost effective plans, phone selection, and even nice web tools like this are all nice, but in terms of ...

Then why are you still with them? Seriously. I do not understand why people stay with a carrier that does not fit their needs.

Your analogy is really not comparable.

Your listing is pretty much what people are looking for (which T-mobile does excellent at). Furthermore, the topic at hand here is not that the T-mobile phone works everywhere, but rather than T-mobile is being upfront about coverage they don't have.

Rant and rave about carriers like Verizon who have service in a lot of areas; their service (relating to customers) is terrible. Customers can now see upfront if their phone will work with T-mobile service. This is not only building trust but also forward-thinking.

An analogy that would work in this situation is you wanting something at a resteraunt and the waitress telling you, listen that's not very good. Like you wanting T-mobile service, and th...

For Cingular, we have a coverage mapping tool called MTI. I make it a point to look up various points of coverage for the customer even if they don't ask, "Do you know how good the coverage will be at my house?" I look up where they work, live, vacation, whatever. If you sell Cingular, and have never used it, check it out. It's on Sales Portal.

Not that you are interested in facts or anything, but we actually have the BEST call quality of any major carrier, according to JD Power. I can personally attest to that, since I used to be indirect and used Verzon, Cingular, and T-Mobile all at the same time in the same area. Guess which carrier I preferred? By the way, Cingular is a joke in my neck of the woods. Since the merger, they have had to call the police to their store three times because their customers were so irate. Sub-par retail servce, sub-par customer care... sounds like a real winner. If you don't think people are switching to us based solely on how you treat them, then you are sadly mistaken.

Only in the southeast and the southwest did they win best call quality. Once again it boils down to location, no real point in arguing about it. Just like all carriers T-mobile has its strong suits.

Being a t-mobile hater is just stupid.

That's the way Verizon is in my area! Like I said on my other post - the people at the corp. store next to where I work make there customers soooo mad sometimes (I had one customer who took his three verizon phones back after I ported his number over and threw them all at the rep he had just spoke to). We get a lot of port-ins from them. And it's not because we have better coverage - it's because they don't want to be hassled every time they want a new phone or want to change something on their account.

My understanding is that T-Mobile is currently setting up roaming agreements with different regional carriers on the 850 bandwidth and plans on releasing more phones that use that frequency. If this happens, coverage area may eventuall...
