That and if you have a shared data plan, why pay the $20 bux extra per month, cost of the device and 2 year contract when you can just use your smartphone as a mifi? Maybe not as good, maybe power issues but wtf, buy an extra power charger.

agreed. It's the same with tablets, when would you be with your table and not your phone? Most people who have tablets have smart phones, save the 10/month and use your mobile hotspot on the phone.

I honestly don't understand it, either, certainly not from the user's perspective. My favorite MiFi was the tiny one with an e-ink display (always on, using zero battery.) Since then, they've only added silly features, while keeping the user interface as bizzarre as ever. I just want a simple, useful interface on a simple, small device. Sigh.
