Corning to Debut Third-Gen Gorilla Glass Next Week
I haven't dropped my Nokia, so I can't really comment on how sturdy it is. I'm still waiting on my Otterbox case, but I hope I don't drop it before I get it.
I could be wrong, but I think Corning only supplies the base glass, not the oleo-phobic coating (the phone maker adds that... or doesn't.)
does the Galaxy S3 handle finger oils?
I'm hoping to get the Galaxy S4 when it comes out in May.
This is really something you want. On a device that has it, you can literally see it working if you push your finger into the screen and quickly let go, anybody with an iPhone knows.
As for the GS III - I have got zero complaints so far about a dirty screen. I HAVE gotten a complaint about the microphone port getting clogged up with dirt and fuzz, however.
...or make it even more finger print proof. At least, this is from my experience, with my Nokia 920. I have much less issues with finger prints and oily smudges on my screen, ...
Gorilla Glass is just the main glass layer. Its key attributes are resistance to breaking and scratching.
What makes it resist fingerprints is an oleo-phobic (oil-resistant) coating on top of the glass. As far as I know, that's something added by the phone manufacturer after they get the Gorilla Glass from Corning. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.
