Verizon!!! Alltel is a huge part of VZW midwest coverage. Verizon was going to buy out Sprint before they merged with Nextel. Alltel would be a great buy for Verizon Wireless. Both have high cust satisfaction and reliable networks

And how does that make any smarts?

Oh..incase you missed it. ther merge with them is already ink'd. Just because there still sell apart does not mean there are in the works. It is not going to be the normal merget you have seen in the past with them two.

from what i understand it seemed for awile verizon was thinking of buying sprint, they both have alot in common, would be a very easy merge, would really speed up the EVDO launch, and both carriers are sold by radio shack. The things holding them back was sprints lower credit standard, there debt, and there lower customer satisfaction level. The deal between sprint and nextel is like a combination of equals, so both companies shareholders get shares of the new company, at nearly equal rates. There is a clause in the deal kinda like a 'early termination fee' of 4 million bucks, if eather side decides to leave the combo, so there is still a chance of verizon buying sprint, however unlikley. With all the compition facing verizon, i.e. the new c...

I'm not so sure that Verizon was ready to buy Sprint. That's a lot of debt to absorb. Did anyone notice the little blurb about the Cingular/Alltel deal? I imagine it's something like the ATTWS/USCellular deal that occurred a little while ago (most obviously down here in Florida).

Im sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound like it was currently in the process of a buyout. I just meant that I would bet that someone will soon. They just don't have the necessary things to expand the company enough to compete. Sorry for the mis-info.

That would be one expensive buy for Verizon, but it could be worth it. I just don't see it happening in the near future. I think that buying the Alltel network would do wonders for the Verizon data coverage, but that is one expensive buy.

I don't see this happening in the near future either. Verizon's been talking about Alltel for the past year or so, but with their hands full with EV DO Verizon's been concentrating on buying spectrum where it's needed.
