Why the Calendar?

I love that feature. I mark something on my calendar on my Mac at home and there it is on my phone.
Love it.
I thought that was a super wow fantastic feature.

Why?

Probably because they had to pay a licensing fee to Microsoft for the use of ActiveSync. This also gives people another incentive to move to an Android phone since Android doesn't use Google Sync and thus their calendars, etc. will still update automatically.

So my Google calender on my android phone will continue to work, after this correct?

I believe so, yes.

My belief is that this affects all platforms but Android(?) since Android assumedly used features built into Android and not a Google Sync app.

Do you think this will affect how Google Calendar syncs to the Windows Phone calendar and/or the Windows 8 calendar?

Because that will suck if I have to start using something else :\

The way I'm reading it, this will only affect Google Calendar Sync for Outlook on a computer starting today:

Google Calendar Sync: The Google Calendar Sync download link will be removed on December 14, 2012. Existing users can continue to use it to sync with Microsoft Outlook Calendar, but it will no longer be supported by Google as of December 14, 2012.
