When I say "behind the times" I mean that other wireless companies have been offering expanded int'l roaming for a long time now and Verizon is just now starting to do so.

IMO they're behind the times with phone for some part. Compared to GSM they are lacking in variety and cool features, so is iDEN. But at least iDEN is going to release a fully functional Bluetooth phone. I know they have a Blackberry with BT but im not sure if that counts as a phone or PDA 😕

Please dont bombard me, this is just my opinion from what I see 😳

Thats cool..I can respect anyones opinion weather I agree with it or not. I will not bombard you. The article was about verizon signing roaming agreements in other countries, not if GSM makes cooler more feature rich phones. Atleast you had something to say beside ' ya! what he said'.

Don't forget, Verizon does not make the phones. Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, etc, are all the companies that make the phones. They are the ones who ultimately decide what goes in a phone (for the most part). Large companies (such as Verizon) do have some of a say in what a phone will do, but its not exactly all their fault that CDMA is behind the times for features in phones.

GSM is more popular in the world than any other technology, so therefor that is one way GSM gets more of the goodies first. We are also the US, we get things slower usually. I talked to someone who lived in Japan for a while and their *FREE* phone was a Sanyo CDMA phone that was *low* end there, but pretty much high end here (minus BT). Markets can really very on this t...

Wait, I thought that for CDMA phones, Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, etc. just designed the phones, and Qualcomm/Kyocera manufactures them and inserts CDMA chips, considering they (Qualcomm) is the developer of CDMA technology. Correct me if I'm wrong.

They may use qualcomm's 3g technology, but i am pretty sure the manufacturer still builds them.

Samsung, Motorola, LG, Cyon, HanHwa, Kyocera, HTC, HuaWei, QuiaoXing and others use QCOM chipsets, but they design and build their own phones. Nokia uses TI chipsets but Nokia designs and builds their own phones.

No, it is new.

Verizon has had CDMA roaming with a handful of countries before, such as Canada and South Korea, but countries like China are definitely new. This is huge news.

I apologize, you are correct, the new addition (and a major one I might add) is China, the rest have been around for a while. Hopefully more countries will be included by the fourth quarter. Thanks for the hint Rich!
