Google Taking Wait-and-See Approach to Windows Phone
Don't make us wait too long, Google!
I hope they get working on their service Apps soon. I'm loving Windows 8, and while I can sync my GMail in the Mail app, it'd be really nice to have native support for all the other services I use on a regular basis as well.
I'm not sure what they're waiting to see either. It may not be the most well loved OS so far, but there are and will continue to be a rapidly growing number of people using Windows 8. It's not going anywhere.

It's really a numbers game. Right now, there aren't that many WP8 users out there, and, since developing apps takes time and resources, Google is saying that developing for that platform may not be worthwhile, given how many users there are right now.
This is a problem that WP8 is going to face from many developers, not just Google. Developers won't write apps if the users aren't there, and it's going to be hard to attract users without lots of apps.

I would accept that were it the WP7 apps they weren't developing (I secretly hope the make those too, but won't hold my breath). However, unless I've massively misunderstood something they could develop one app and port it to both Windows 8 AND WP8. While WP8 may not have a large user base yet, Windows 8 certainly will. Thus my confusion as to why they would put off the inevitable like this.

Windows Phone has had not had any difficulty attracting developers.....I stopped counting how many apps the Windows Store had, but by now it surely has to be well over 100,000.......and not just the sheer numbers, but also the quality apps.....name any major app available for Android or iOS...Windows Phone has it....why Google is being so stubborn when everyone else jumped on the bandwagon a long time ago I don't understand..

Because Windows Phone 8 is a Competitor OS. Also well there are a decent number of apps out for windows store I have yet to find any apps, games in specific that are even close to what you can get in the android play store as far as quality. Graphics on some android first person shooters are pretty awesome. yet to find something close sadly...
Hopefully we can see this change over the next year with the arrival of new phones.
