Google Sells Motorola's Manufacturing Facilities
Well, if you worked for them at the moment you might not have to worry about working for them much longer... Google is not afraid of some serious restructuring it seems, no matter how many layoffs...
"The assets and employees of these facilities will be transferred from Google to Flextronics."
Without further details, there is no reason to think that this will result in more layoffs than if Goggle held the factories, or if Motorola was still self-owned.
But there probably would be loads of layoffs necessary if Google kept all of the factories but only made devices it was interested in.
Because, despite their claims, Google was only ever really interested in the patents owned by Motorola.
Could be, or maybe they were only interested in patents and Android devices. All of the non-android things Motorola does could be the very reason to sell it. Note that the article says that Google has a contract with the new owners to have android devices made.
