Since it's value plan only, what happens to stores like Best Buy, Walmart and Costco since they can't do value plans??

Hopefully they get cut out. I'm really tired of having to compete with Walmart's 97-cent phones, especially when the customer gets a phone from Walmart, Walmart screws it up because they have no idea what they're doing, then I have to fix their mess.

Or they sell unlocked GSM devices at a discounted price. And one has to be an idiot to pay for a phone outright, and sign a two year agreement.

If you are initiating new service, then you generally have to sign a contract whether you get a phone from the carrier or not. You generally can't sign up for new post paid service without signing a contract.

Actually no, You can walk into any corp AT&T and VZW store, buy the ;phone at full price and not have a contract (seeing you pass credit checks). I know Sprint won't allow it.

Don't get me wrong, I never minded paying for my phones, and would love it where you can do just that and play the carriers off each other. Good service and good customer service would solve most churn.

at&t will not allow anyone to sign up for new service without a contract even if they bring in their own phone....I know this because when I worked for at&t I had that argument with customers constantly......they always thought that if they bought the phone outright they didn't need to sign a contract...but that's only true for existing customers, brand new customers have to sign a contract regardless.

Actually one has to be an idiot to still buy the phone outrght (through a service plan that costs much more over the two years and never goes down). It's a better value to get a much cheaper rate plan instead and still pay less (in most cases even with a outright phone being done in payments and after 20 months (or less if you fnish paying it up early) get a steeper discount on your bill. Alot of people would like to hang on to their shiny devices longer than most of us here. 😎

I know I probably sound like a fanboi, but you're completly right sublime. Not only that, if you do the math, even if you buy the most expensive phone T-Mobile sells, which is the Galaxy Note II, the Value plans ALWAYS cost you hundreds and hundreds of dollars less per 2-year contract.

Always.

So what if you may have to come up with a large out-of pocket cost at the start, haven't you people ever heard of saving up for something ? I don't want bad economy comments - if you can't afford a phone, you probably shouldn't buy it or complain you can't afford it. Non-subsidy is definately the way to go.

For Tmobile it would be extremely bad for T-Moble's bottom line to lose national retail. They sell a lot of phones and drive new customers. But of course as a sales rep at Tmobile you don't care

lmao! Yes I hope the same, im tired of all the screwing up on the accounts that they cause. Or when people think they had php on the account and they didnt or had one of the wal mart plans that they offer, its such a terrible way to do business it sucks having to send them back over because theres no way for me to fix some of the mistakes to our customer care to resolve, it just backs them up and its so unnecessary.
