Somewhat understand Apple, but...

by Rusty Shackleford    Dec 7, 2012, 3:22 PM

I can somewhat understand why Apple is so litigious here considering they stole the desktop GUI thing first only to find Microsoft's shoddy Windows OS taking over the world. In the 00s, Apple made the whole smartphone thing mainstream and, once again, others are swooping in to take what Apple thinks ought to belong to Apple. Because of their history I can see why they are being so aggressive, unfortunately I think this doesn't really touch upon why Apple is always so easy to marginalize. Apple is, once again, focusing on image and attempting to make their name a designer name brand instead of focusing on getting their products in as many hands as possible.

It's like Apple wants the best of both worlds: it wants the lack of competition that a major market leader enjoys while also catering to the niche image-conscience market that is willing to pay a premium for the luxury of being seen with an elite label. These are two mutually-exclusive positions and Apple needs to figure out which one it wants and focus on it.
