Minor correction: 16gb Nexus 4 is $349 unlocked. $299 for the 8 gb. So yeah... kinda hard to justify paying double.
The only thing that does suck about the Nexus is that it is limited to 16gb. A person could have more than that in MP3s and videos, and it would be nice to have the option of loading it all up to have everything with you always.

You could not have hit that one more on the head.
With that much money I could pay an overdue bill. There are plenty of excellent phones out there for less.
Matter of opulence and impressing yourself and your friends is a poor excuse. Thats why there are other portable devices that can take care of what your are shelling out of your a$$es for.
Common sense is what's it's all about.

As an owner of an HTC One X, I can say there isn't:
-A VNC Client I would rely on (iOS has iTeleport)
-An Office Editing Suite I would rely on (iOS has iWork)
-An FTP Client I would rely on (iOS has FTPonTheGoPro)
-An IMAP Mail client that is as robust as Apple's iOS Mail Client
Additionally, apps such as Rdio, Twitter, Facebook, and even Sketchbook Pro are cheap facsimiles of their iOS equivalent.
Finally, although some of it is HTC-related, I've yet to own an Android device that didn't glitch out to the point of requiring some software reset within 6 months of ownership. These range from Nexus devices with screwy GPS functionality to my One X shutting off from the LTE network. You want to know who has time for that? Nobody. ...

I have a nexus 7 and a HTC one X phone and both are more reliable and faster than my wifes iPhone 4. Her phones has to do the power home reset option at least every other day. The only problem with my One X was relate to an ATT network problem. So personally I will stick with android and its superior email client vs the takes forever go sync and sometimes doesn't sync iOS mail client.

Aside from GMail (which I don't use for personal email) , the HTC Mail client, though the best of Android mail clients, is nowhere near as nice as iOS's.
It lacks rich formatting, it constantly messes up plain text formatting when replying to an email, there's no copy+paste functionality with images (an overall Android problem) , and it can't search on iMap servers, so hope you like downloading every email message locally to your 16GB of memory phone.

That's a pretty big thing to lose out on. Paying the extra $300.00 is a fraction of the 1,000.00 over the course of a year.
