Might not be a bad idea....

Considering the jillions of handheld and portable devices we all have, this could be a very good idea. One plug always in the outlet, just change the tips for the device- my Nokia, my friend's Motorola, another friend's Game Boy, and another's laptop computer. SAme with a car charger- just swap the adapter to fit the device. If this takes off well, it could be a HUGE relief to the average person and their bird's nest of tangled cords.

I-Go is huge. There are already plans for some Verizon and Sprint phones to come with the appropriate tip included in the box. The toughest part is the few handsets that there are no tips for. The Moto's for Cingular and the Samsungs for T-Mo.

ya, i work at radio shack and the iGO line is incredible i bought if for my phone and game boy as well as my mothers phone. The charger itself is 30 bucks and the tips are 10...but the first tip you buy with the charger is free. Great deal cant beat it in the long run every tip is a new charger so 10 bucks for a really good charger that will last you a good long time is a steal ^_^.

Sound great. Is Great. BUT the average user will lose any and all of the "extra" tips. Lets face it. Now if there was some way to hold the tips in the units base or attached via some short tether or such. I also have concerns about using the wrong tip in a device. I have lots of customers who believe, "if it fits, it should work". I would hate to see devices burned out due to wrong voltage/-/+ tip settings. I know these are user issues and not item issues, but this is life and not everyone is tech savy. (What is tech savy--if you post here (or any where) you are.

That always scares me when people come in with "universal" chargers, and say their phone does not charge. Gee, could it be because you fried your phone? Of course the output is incorrect, and they do not understand when you try to explain it to them. They believe that if it fits then it is fine. Technically, these chargers should void the handsets warranty, because it is not made by the manufacturer. I wonder if Moto will work it into the warranty since they're investing in them now. I doubt it.

They dont void the warranty because the manufacturer of iGo has tested the product and come to agreements with the manufacturers of the phones (the ones that they have developed correct tips for). If you use an incorrect tip, then yes, you void the warranty even though it is an iGo charger. This holds true for manufacturer chargers as well. Just because it is a samsung charger does not mean that it will charge all samsungs. I have seen phones come back from repair with the charges denied by the manufacturer because the customer used the wrong charger, even though the charger they used was made by the same company. And no matter what, any charger bought at walmart or a dollar store will void the warranty. Any warranty that is provided i...

We sell them here at my kiosk, and these things are awesome! It makes life so much easier for us, we don't have to worry as much about not having the car charger (or wall charger), and the other big thing is that we can carry a heck of a lot more for every phone. The itips, which plug on the end of the charger and are phone specific, are very small, therefore, we can easily carry 10 times more of each itip versus having the phone specific chargers. The other really big thing about these chargers is the fact that each cell phone company has endorsed this charger, and it also has a built in surge protector! what more can you ask for?!?

The only problem is getting out of the "happy discounter, Free, Free, Free!" mode and into the value added consultant mode. These things are solid. Not perfect but they are solid.
John Q. Public is into the happy discounter way of shopping and it makes a difference to many of them if the accessories are even 50 cents cheaper at WalMart.
During my time working for a wireless carrier in a kiosk in WalMart I lost a lot of accessory sales to the $9.99 WalMart variety. I also often became the bad guy when I wouldn't replace the phone when that $9.99 charger fried it. This was a regular occurance.
The greatest value of the I-go is that there is a circuit breaker instead of a non replacable fuse. People are not going to remember to unplug thei...
