I'm surprised they haven't added Samsung TV's to the mix. Oh wait, they only seem to be going after devices that are in direct competition with them. People can say what they want but, if Samsung wasn't their direct competitor in hardware, i doubt Apple would be doing this. At least, not on such a large scale.

I don't see why Apple would want to get into selling TV's...people generally buy a TV and keep it for 20,30,40 years until it craps out....people don't upgrade their TV's every 3 years.....doesn't seem like the kind of market that Apple would be interested in...

Steve Jobs did say in his auto-biography - “I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,’ he told me. ‘It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.’ No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. ‘It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.”

Yea i can see why they would want to. I mean you see those 27in apple screens vs a 27in none apple screen (even some of the super nice dell ultrasharps at over a grand a piece might not rival the apple im sure some people would say). It might be worth the price if you can afford it. I'm sure they'd make a beautiful television screen.

These law suits on trivial patents are one of the reasons I'd never buy anything from Apple.

You have the wrong brand first off! For Apple to sue, they'd need to have a Google association with the product, which Samsung TVs are lacking. They do not have Google TV! LG does so LG would take the brunt of that suit force head on.

The one thing you forgot, is that Samsung has a touch screen TV. Also Sony has a Google TV, & Apple isnt going after them. Maybe because Sony pretty much owns more patens than patents than Apple.

Samsung had other Touch screen non-Android phone devices too but those were not included in the patent suit. Therefore why would Apple sue Samsung over the Touch screen TVs without any Google association tied to them?

As for Sony, to paraphrase Led Zeppelin here, "Your Time is gonna come!"

Apple has sued every major Manufacturer known to mankind having any sort of remote association with Google. See HTC and Samsung as just two of the bigger Guinea Pigs. Sony is not getting away scott fr...

I think once Apple tries to sue Sony, here is what could come. Sony would pull their Music & Movies out of Itunes. Sony also ownes the rights to the micro lens on most phones. (The camreras Apple uses is one of them) Dont forget, Sony will play dirty with Apple, & has the history to prove it. I am not saying Sony is untouchable, but I will say they have been in the game a lot longer than the companies Apple has gone after.

And I know the arguement that Apple is bigger, but look up Sony's stocks, & who they own. Sony doesnt have all their eggs in one basket like apple. Sony does have deep pockets, dont let the TV stocks fool you. I would bet they are the giant Apple will think twice about.

Thats only on TV's go look up all of Sony's stocks. They even own companies not under the Sony name. Plus, Sony has been restructuring for the past couple of years. True, Sony's marketing sucks! That could change. It wasnt long ago, that Apple was about to shut down.
Also Steve Jobs said he took design quesues from Sony. (As he did from other companies as well)

A lot of their departments aren't turning a profit when they should (TV, PSP:Vita, PS3) in particular. Their camera department seems to be the only thing going positive right now.

That is true, but lets not forget about Music & Movies, as well as stocks they own in other companies. (Compainies not under the Sony name)
On the TV note: even Samsung is not turning a profit, as the LCD screens are expensive to make. Thats why Sony sold the LCD factory to Samsung. Its cheaper to subcontract it out than to make.

No, I meant what I said. It was a bit of sarcasm on my part. But, that Apple wouldn't try to sue them over patents, if they ever decided to actually do a TV and not just a digital device that hooks up to TVs.

I just think, Apple doing all this suing is a bit overboard and unnecessary. I could be wrong but, just seems petty. Although, it's not just them. All these tech companies seem to be going at each other.

Samsung is not only their direct competitor but the only competitor that has Apple shaking in their boots. Samsung will be the reason why Apple sees a drop in sales in their App store.
Samsung could be making so much more money if they had their own App store and not Google Play.

In terms of hardware sales, yeah, they are direct competitors. That's what I was speaking of. But, if video I checked out...cant remember if it was CNN or USA Today but, a video I saw of RIM's new all touch screen phone looks a lot like an iPhone in design, only black. I know over all design format was one of the things Apple cried about.

Go figure, patents on rounded corner rectangle, with bezel. About as dumb as the company that is trying to sue MS over the use of "metro". Since when does a common word become or have a patent by one company? If someone understands this, please explain.

Well, speaking of common words being trademarked (not patented, you can't patent words) Apple just bought the rights to the word "Lightning" from Harley Davidson. I assume they bought the rights to the term "Thunderbolt" a while ago. God knows they have a trademark now on "Retina".

I /assume/ those trademarks are only valid within the same category of products. I could, say, make a line of....I don't know, cookware, and use the term Lightning with impunity.

Apple would never sue RIM at this point they are insignificant and not a threat to Apple's fortune. If RIM succeeds then that is another story, Apple will be waiting.
The government should step in and find a compromise on behalf of both companies because clearly these two continue to act like kids.
