Excellent! We're pronouncing new products as junk BEFORE they actually arrive for use.

I don't know - I have to say that since Nokia started manufacturing their own RF Chipset and got away from Qualcomm, the quality of their products have been much better - far superior to other phones (at least in this area). I would hate to see them go back to the Qualcomm chip and deteriorate their quality in comparison. 😕

The only problem with your statement is that they have never used the Qualcomm chipset except with the 2180, their first CDMA phone.
Neither did Motorola until recently. There is nothing wrong with the Qualcomm chipset, all other CDMA phones use it and it works great. The RF characteristics of phones varies, but that has nothing to do with the Qualcomm chipset.

Well, that TI chipset sure beat the Qualcomm chipset in my Samsung a650. I went back to the Nokia.

Samsung CDMA phones have always only been acceptable performers, never great. The 3588/9 has had superior RF performance but this has been the exception rather than the rule for Nokia CDMA phones. The 6585 and the 6019 on USCC are abysmal.
We avoid selling Samsung phones for Sprint in favor of the Sanyo's and on Verizon in favor of the LG's. I understand that Samsung's GSM phones are great performers.

If only Sanyo made phones for all CDMA carriers things would be way different. They are definitely the best at this time.

Acutally, the 6019i and the 6585 have been great performers for USCC, I've not heard of any troubles with them. My boss travels all over and his 6585 will get reception in areas that his 6000 will not.

Interesting. Two totally different opinions. What are you basing yours on, Jeff?

I am basing my opinion on the fact that here in Southern Oregon and Northern California the 6019 and the 6585 are the most returned phones we offer. We usually end up sending the customer out with a Motorola V262 or a 343 and they are happier with it. Now admittedly the lava beds in this area are not RF friendly and because so much of the market is set aside as wilderness area, tower building is out of the question.
The complaint is always the same: "I wish I had my old Audiovox 4000 back because I could make a call from home." If the customer does not need anything outside of town the Nokias are fine. My people have mutinied and refused to sell them because they are sick of them coming back. Incredibly of all the phones they would rath...

My favorite phone of all time is my old Sanyo scp4700. And you're right about LGs with Verizon...great RF. I had heard a version of the 6585 was coming to Verizon...but...

Incredibly enough, the same model of phone for a different carrier will act completely different. The LG 6100 on USCC was recalled due to issues with BREW while the Verizon version has had absolutely no issues. The Nokia 3588 outperforms the 3589 and they are essentially the same phone. Don't ask me why but maybe the 6585 on Verizon will be better than for USCC.

Like you said, tower buildout in your area is something altogether different than buildout in South Florida. ANY carrier works well down here. It's nice, really. And you're right, all the reps down here carry the 6100...it's a nice, dependable phone. I'm hoping with abated breath that I see a nice, mid to high-end Nokia soon from Veri...

Nokia has some repair work to do with both Verizon and Sprint. Neither are too excited about Nokia handsets. If they could come up woth a stable handset that was both feature packed and didn't do goofy things then it would help. Past Nokias would take take themselves off the network and all calls would then be forwarded directly to voicemail. Customers would receive bunches of voicemails but their phone never rang, nor did their caller ID register a missed call.
For those who love their GSM they can't understand the Nokia CDMA issues because Nokias are very stable GSM performers

Yeah. I replaced my sister's bulletproof 3360 TDMA with a 3120 GSM through Cingular. She loves it and I'm glad.
