The rates for international calling and texting are way better on an MVNO. The only thing AT&T has extra is their data and proprietary apps.

Many countries outside the U.S. have their own pre-paid SIMS as well as long as your U.S. based phone is un-locked.
I would rather not feed AT&T alrady huge pockets for international roaming and data.
As well Voyager Mobile will be eliminating this issue completely sometime next year with cloud based international roaming.

For overseas roaming I always use an unlocked GSM phone and buy a pre-paid SIM card in my country of destination, that's always cheaper than any international roaming plan.
That is exactly what I was referring to. Unlocked GSM with prepaid SIM from the destination country. Lots of them get free incoming calls.
I know its not AT&T's fault. Its the destination countries rate ...
