Could you imagine Verizon and/or BREW allowing someone else to make the money instead of them? I can't.

I do not see what the big deal is. I think that the content of get it now and the amount of applications available is awesome.

People always want something to bitch about. Maybe we should revert back to to party lines. To hell with technology.

I do not understand why you people always have to complain about new innovations and the companies that capitalize on them. We do not live in a communist society so stop talking like we should. Everything equal, everything free, that is such BS!!!! Everyone in this great country has the right and the opportunity to make as much money as they can in there life time. I, for one, encourage everyone to do so. If you do not feel like BREW apps are worth your hard earned money that is fine,...

In response to this "debate" regarding the correctness of VZW's actions...

Many people believe Verizon has "scammed" us through the implementation of its phone software and the limitation of features (V710)

I agree with the statement that it is a free country and if you choose to be wealthy, go for it... if that is what you want.

However, there has to be a certain fairness to the above statement. If there is no fairness, you get angry people like myself who are leaving VZW. Which is contradictory to the above statement. Verizon is using brew to emulate software that is already readily available by alternate vendors, they are also forcing us to use "Get SH*T Now" by locking down the hardware on our phones. This is almost Monopolisti...

The fairness comes in to play when you are talking about the ability to share downloaded ringtones freely with your friends when you have only purchased a license to use the ringtone on one devise. BREW apps are licensed the same way software on your computer is licensed, for use on a single devise. VZW cannot in stand by and knowingly allow its subscribers to break copyright laws with a fully functional bluetooth phone. If VZW would allow this to happen guaranteed VZW gets sued by the companies who develop the get it now apps. Basically it is the same thing as the record companies suing those who freely and illegally share mp3's. An honest person and/or company does not stand idolly by and allow others to break the law.

It seems t...

well for one I can make my own ringtones from MIDI files or MP3's and sell them my self, but can sell them to Verizon customers, and tmobile has made it where they can sell you a ring tone, wall paper, game, etc, and you cant trans that to anther phone via MMS or bluetooth, so thats where I would agree w/ you, Verizon is blocking my free trade enterprise, by the way anyone want to buy some Final Fantasy MIDI ringtones

I was not trying to say VZW was unfair to protect their copyrighted works. As an IT proffessional I completely agree with and deal with protecting licensing.

However, I am talking about when I want to use my own home made ring tones from either music I already own, live music that is freely distributed or music I compose on my keyboard.

If you had FutureDial's SnapMedia software and the cable for your phone you can download those files to your phone. You can also extract pictures from your camera phone into your PC or Mac. It is ridiculously easy to do.

I'm talking about having the freedom to visit a third party website and download ringtones, graphics, and other apps. King Dunce? Whoa. Great comeback.

HAHAHAH King Dunce!!!! HAHAHAHA We have a "gifted" person on the forums!!! Seriously Celling_it! Maybe you've been a long time Verizon customer and don't know, but there is thing called the Internet. On this interent there tons of third party website full of useful apps. Some for free, usually shareware, but most that you have to pay for. The ones you have to pay for are usually a lot cheaper then "GET SH!T NOW". Thus saving you money. They aren't hacked or stolen. Just apps made by someone else trying to make a buck in our capitalist society (no one I know is more proud to be an American than I). Verizon is shutting out those small cellphone software makers in favor of those who can afford to pay the company for a spot on "GET SH!T NOW". I ...

One of the biggest problems with BREW/Get It Now is that if you get a new phone, you have to repurchase anything previously bought from Get It Now. Even if you break/lose your phone and you get an insurance replacement, then you have to repurchase everything again. Don't you think that's a bit unfair?

If I buy a new computer, I can simply install my old software on the new computer. Or if it's downloaded software which I paid for, all I need is a valid license key and then I can install it on the new machine. Get It Now should at least allow this also.

Verizon will charge you but all you have to do is call customer service and tell them and they will reverse the charges. I have done it a couple of times.. 🙂 🙂

Sorry Celling_it, but I'm going to have to agree with muchdrama here, to a certain extent. While Verizon has many nice applications, ringers, and wallpapers available through Get It Now, the inability to get such items from anyone BUT them in most cases is frustrating.

For example, you may have noticed a glut of commercials lately advertising specialty ringtones. Yesteday a coworker of mine (I work at a RadioShack) game in complaining that he'd seen one he liked, and couldn't get it, because he has a verizon phone. Peventing piracy is one thing, but BREW also limits who can supply such things legally, which is something else altogether.

I like Verizon. In my area (northern New England) they simply can't be beat for coverage area. In th...

I agree (as a Verizon user) that BREW is a pain. However, as with all retail, we have the ability to choose who our provider is. If there is more than one carrier in your area, no one is gonna break your legs if you don't choose VZW. We sign the contracts of our own free will (last time I checked). BREW can be better but hey, I hack my phone anyway. My V710 has ringers that didn't cost me a dime 😁 . But thats just me.

I think there may be a misunderstanding. BREW is an operating system, like Java2Me. It is not only "Get it Now". USCC also uses BREW on their phones as well as some other smaller CDMA carriers. Music, pictures and ringtomnes can be downloaded from a host of sites other than GIN (Mbuzzy, etc.). BRE...
