Some people have argued the idea that, Microsoft is killing the Windows Phone, by giving other OS's access to their apps. I was one of those people early on. But, having had time to ponder the idea, this is actually a smart move, for a couple of reasons.
Whether or not people acknowledge WP as a viable OS, the fact is, it is. Microsoft wants to sell their WP based solely on the fact that, it is a great OS and WP8 will only get better, and not based simply on specific apps. Another reason is, they want to show that they can play well with others and it shows confidence in their product, which brings up another point.
Microsoft may or may not garner a large percentage of the smartphone market, as of yet but, they most certainly are here to stay for the long haul and they most certainly will make their presence known, with the release of Windows 8 and Windows 8 tablets. Those who aren't tied down to one specific OS over the other, will be more open to what Microsoft has to offer.
