Obviously Apple could have (should have) standardized and went with micro-USB to start. They had the chance. One more irritant to consumers. They made a bad call with the Lightning idea here. The difference adds no value.

Exactly.

This adapter shows that for the first time, Apple hasn't been able to completely fight the mainstream flow. Their non-standard interface on all iPhone and iPods was always an issue for all but the devoted iHead people.

Every other modern device (phone, tablet, media player) uses a now Standard USB or microUSB interface. It looks like Apple might be finally finding it hard to Stand Alone.

It might be hard for them to stay seperate but Apple made a good choice here I think. And thats being the windows fanboy I am... They dont want to be just another phone with micro USB. They want to be a Premium product seller. If they are or not that's what they are tring to sell. Besides if they offer their Iphone with microusb you dont have to buy their adapters and special apple accesories. Sure china is making lightning already but they are selling to Apple FANS that already are under the apple mindset.... 🙂

There's no one here that would argue that what you are saying isn't true. Most simply find it unethical.
