So this would increase STANDBY time, not the actual phone's battery life. The article states information about standby time being greatly increased, not the actual battery life when the device is in use. My phone usually dies from extreme use from me constantly using it, not from it being on standby. If it's going to stay on standby for hours and hours, I turn it off.

over the last couple years, we've read about and heard about all these advances researchers are making in battery life on cell phones. it would be nice if they'd start apply it in the real world. i'm sick of my phone dying as soon as i unplug it.... 👿

Yep! I feel the same way, I'm sick of articles like these, I want to see advances made with batteries in the REAL WORLD, as in an ACTUAL consumer product.

You do understand how difficult it is to figure this stuff out on a scientific level, never mind on a technological level yeah?

They've invented cell phones where we can do as much as we could on a desktop computer a decade ago, I think they should be able to figure out how to improve battery performance a little bit...

Precisely! It's nearly the year 2013 for God's sake!!!
Does it have to be 2017/2020 for there to very real world improvement with smartphone & laptops???

Supposedly the Qualcomm S4 chip is suppose to help with battery life, drain less on standby, personally I have the Droid Charge, so I don't know what sort of battery improvements the S4 chip delivers.

So, you believe that lower consumption during standby would not leave more power for the periods when your are hammering your phone? Where is it going then? 🙄
