And of course T-Mobile can't just let us CHOOSE which apps to install

Either you get bloated with a bunch of BS T-Mobile apps nobody wants, or you get nothing.

Sure they can....but the entire point of the Nexus line is that there is NO carrier ware and no modifications, if they introduced a modification, it would betray the purpose of the line....

Although why they can't just make the necessary app available in the Android Market is another question...

that's because in order for UMA/Wifi calling to work, they have to modify the kernel to redirect calls over the UMA app, and on the Nexus that's a big no-no since it's a pure-google device.

give it a few weeks and people will do it themselves, just T-Mobile will not "officially" support it

Will people do it themselves?

As far as I know, no one has been able to port WiFi calling to the Galaxy nexus on T-Mobile. So why would this be any different?

This is a good new. No bloatware taking up space. Never understand what's the point of the stupid Tmobile wifi calling. They still deduct your Tmobile minutes.

It's meant for coverage, not free calls. It also stops roaming rates if used while roaming.

Theres a free feature that needs to be added to a line to use wifi calling w/o it counting against whenever minutes, but you have to ask

It is for use in areas where you don't have good coverage but do have WiFi.....I could see such a feature being very useful.

Would it work on WiFi anywhere? Even areas where T-Mobile has no native coverage?

If you are outside of the country it is a cheap way for you to call home and have people from home to call you as if you were local. It's really a great feature.
