Not 4 Verizon

I have a new friend at Verizon who said I shouldn't get excited about this phone nor the Samsung A970 because Verizon requires external stub antennas for their phones.

Once again, the "cool" seems to breeze by Verizon.

That would be feasible if VZW's Get It Now logo (copyrighted) was not on the keypad of the A970 🙄
Now, I could care less about the RAZR remake.

Oh yeah, ask you friend about the Samsung SCH-N330... Its listed as tentative for VZW but has an internal antenna. But I guess its not gonna be for VZW either 😁

Trust me... the A970 is definitely for Verizon. I've held it and played with it twice, and I can assure you that it has a Get It Now logo on the keypad...

Both the N330 and A970 are Samsungs with internal antennas for Verizon. Samsung has worked very hard to create an internal antenna to meet Verizon's standards. It's something I specifically discussed with Samsung spokespeople at CTIA just yesterday. They said it wasn't easy getting Verizon to approve it, but they have made it work.

I can also tell you that the CDMA RAZR (we like to call it the CRAZR 😉 ) is also intended for Verizon. That's based on:
  1. I was at the press conference Tuesday evening where this was announced, and I was literally six feet from Ron Garriques wh

  1. I was at the press conference Tuesday evening where this was announced, and I was literally six feet from Ron Garriques when he specifically said on stage that the main challenge in bringing the Korean CRAZR to the U.S. was making it dual-band. If it was for Sprint, it would not need to be dual-band...
  2. I can also tell you that Motorola is still on very rocky footing with Sprint right now. I heard this straight from the mouths of top execs at both companies at CTIA. The V60v wasn't too great, so Motorola is going to try again with two phones entering testing toward t

Did you not just hear Rich tell you that the phone will be dual band? Open your ears, boyo.

Nextel 18 doesn't pick things up too quickly...

Rich, you are correct about the Verizon getting the RAZR. The antenna issue is a non-issue. The CDMA version has been in the works for some time and the reason its slightly thicker than the GSM version is simply due to the CDMA components.

Not to stray from the topic too much, but the antenna thing with Verizon really is a perceptual issue.

(according to Motorola,) the RAZR is one of the best-performing phones ever in terms of RF performance.

Man, they must be expecting snow this morning in N'awlins... 😳

I did say "according to Motorola". I'm quoting Ron Garriques, not stating fact from any hard testing I've done, of course...

Although I do have a RAZR, and I am impressed with its RF performance.

Is that what you use as your main cell phone? Or do you just have it for testing purposes? I only ask because a Cingular rep really talked me out of the RAZR into the Nokia 6230 and I am really second guessing myself now. Your input would help me alot. Thanks, Rich.

I actually have both a 6230 and a RAZR. I like both of them. I've been carrying the 6230 lately, but only because I haven't had time to get WAP working with my T-Mobile account on the RAZR.

They're both great phones, IMO.

Thanks, Rich. Based on your opinions, along with others, I think that for the money, I got the best option in the 6230.

I think the only thing that would have really made me consider spending $210 more for the RAZR would have been you saying that it is far superior to the 6230.

Thank You very much for your input.

Go to http://us.t-mobile.mywds.com
This is the T-Mobile configurator site. You can get OTA updates for all kinds of unlocked phones to enable WAP, MMS, and internet. I used it on a RAZR just the other day.

Hopefully the CRAZR will be better than most of Motorola's other CDMA phones. They tend to be a bit quirky and do strange things. Their RF performance is fine, though.
