is this a whole new carrier?

just trying to clarify, is amp'd a new carrier (like vzw, cingular, tmobile) just running off of vzw's network or will they have to put up their own separate towers?

yerp, its a whole new carrier, just using Verizion's towers instead of building their own.

Yes. Amp'd is basically a whole new carrier. They will have their own phone lineup, services, plans, sales channels, customer service billing, and everything else. As far as consumers are concerned, it will be a whole new carrier - an alternative to Verizon and everyone else.

But, as an MVNO, they will have their own network and towers. They will pay Verizon for that. It's a win-situation, though. Even though Amp'd will compete against Verizon, Verizon can still offer Amp'd use of their network at a deeply, deeply, discounted rate, because new Amp'd customers do not cost Verizon a dime in terms of acquisition costs, subsidies, support, etc.

Heck, even if all Verizon customers switched to Amp'd the day they launched, Verizon would prob...
